a day of thanks for the year's harvest and blessings, when families gather around a shared meal.
families share roast turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie, often on the sunday or monday of the long weekend. churches fill with harvest decorations, and many towns hold fall fairs.

a day to honour the members of the armed forces who died in service to canada. it marks the hour the guns fell silent at the end of the first world war.
in the weeks before, canadians wear the poppy. at 11 a.m. there are two minutes of silence, and towns, schools and legion halls hold ceremonies at their cenotaphs.

the feast of the birth of jesus christ, the son of god made man, and a holiday across canada. it opens the twelve days of christmas.
many go to midnight mass or a morning service and sing carols. in quebec and french-speaking canada families gather after midnight mass for the réveillon; elsewhere families open stockings and presents and share a turkey dinner.

the country's birthday: a day of red and white, flags and gathering.
the main celebration is on parliament hill in ottawa, with "o canada" sung in english and french; towns across the country hold parades, concerts, picnics and fireworks, and many new canadians choose the day to take their citizenship oath.

the sun stands at the centre and the year rings round it, with today's earth riding at today's place, its small moon beside it. tap the ring anywhere else and a faint ghost earth waits on that day.
drag along the ring and the days pass under your finger, the big date and the day's list following as you go. lift, and the day you stopped on stays picked.
tap the small moon beside today's earth and you dive into the week. the moon above shows its phase, named underneath; swipe the dates and each week brings its own.
tap the sun and the ring tips on its edge into a ladder of years. in the week, pull the moon firmly down and the month opens, the moon resting half off its foot.
zenith calendar has no server of its own. tap the gear and switch on "nothing comes in" or "nothing leaves this phone"; lift them, and every almanac is back exactly as it was.
