the end of the buddhist lent, welcoming the buddha's return from the heaven where he spent the rains teaching the abhidhamma to his mother.
for three days houses, streets and pagodas are lit with candles and lamps for the stairway the buddha came down. young people pay gadaw, bowing to parents, teachers and elders and asking forgiveness, and the elders bless them.

the tazaungdaing festival of lights at the close of the rainy season, and the height of kahtein, the month when lay people offer new robes to the monks who kept the rains.
people offer kahtein robes and alms at the monasteries, and in many places weavers work through the night weaving matho thingan robes for the monks. lanterns are lit across the country.

the holiest full moon of the year, when myanmar buddhists remember the buddha's birth, his awakening and his passing into final nibbāna.
it is the bodhi tree watering festival: people walk in procession to the pagodas carrying pots of water and pour it on the roots of the bodhi trees. they also keep the precepts and give to the monks.
