Announcements — the morning, the afternoon, the evening & the night
An announcement is a notice at a set time of day that tells you what is coming. There are four, and you can add up to twelve of your own. Each has its own time, its own name and its own switch.
Where it is
Hold the gear ⚙ in the sky's bottom-right corner to open the settings book, then tap settings › "the morning". Its row is lined "the morning · the afternoon · the evening · the night · your own".
The page opens with "when the calendar tells you what is coming — each at its own time, with its own switch".
The four
| Announcement | Comes at | Says, to start |
|---|---|---|
| "the morning" | 8a | today's commitments |
| "the afternoon" | 1p | what's left of today |
| "the evening" | 6p | what's left of today |
| "the night" | 9p | tomorrow's commitments |
All four start off. Turn one on with its switch.
The evening starts on what's left of today because tomorrow is the day-before notice's job. See The morning, the evening bell & tomorrow.
Choose what one says
Under each announcement are three chips: "today's commitments" · "what's left of today" · "tomorrow's commitments". The lit one is what it says. Tap another to change it.
- "today's commitments" — up to three of today's commitments, the things you have to do, in time order, with their times. If there are more, it adds " · +N more". All-day ones come last. A day with nothing reads "a quiet day — nothing placed today".
- "what's left of today" — today's timed commitments from that moment on. With none left, it reads "a quiet rest of the day — nothing more placed today".
- "tomorrow's commitments" — tomorrow's, the same way. An empty tomorrow reads "a quiet day tomorrow — nothing placed tomorrow".
Rename one or change its time
- Tap the line under it, "at ‹time› · tap to rename or change the time".
- Type a name in "its name". Leave it empty to get its own name back.
- Tap "at ‹time› · change the time". A clock face titled "the time" opens. Choose, then tap "that time". "never mind" leaves it as it was.
- Tap "keep". "leave it" changes nothing.
The name is what its notice is called. On settings › "notifications" and in the phone's own settings, the four keep their fixed names.
The day-before notice
Under "an extra one we are using" is "the day-before notice — the evening before each timed commitment; the evening bells you set come at this time too". It has a switch and "at 6p · change the time". Tap that line to open the clock face straight away.
What the day-before notice does is on The morning, the evening bell & tomorrow.
Your own
- Under "your own", tap "+ add your own".
- Type its name in "its name", pick one of the three chips, and tap "at 12p · change the time" to set when it comes.
- Tap "keep". It is added, switched on. "keep" is not offered until it has a name.
A new one says what's left of today unless you pick another chip.
To change one, tap its line, "at ‹time› · tap to rename, change the time or remove". Then:
- "keep" keeps your changes.
- "remove this one" removes it. Tap it twice — it asks "sure?" first.
- "leave it" changes nothing.
Its chips and its switch work without opening it.
You can have twelve. At twelve the page says "twelve is as many as there can be — remove one to add another".
All of your own share one switch on settings › "notifications": "your own announcements". Adding one, or switching one on, turns it on. Switching it off there silences every one of them.
When one comes
- It comes within a quarter of an hour of its time. If today's time has passed, the first one comes tomorrow.
- Its notice is titled with its name: "the morning" until you rename it.
- A tap on the notice opens what it said as a page of its own, over whatever is showing.
- If it rings while the calendar is open in front of you, the same page also opens at once. The notice is still posted.
The page shows the announcement's name, the weekday and date — tomorrow's for tomorrow's commitments — and every commitment it named, not only three. Each row is a small dot in the commitment's own colour, its title in lowercase, and its time at the right. Tap a row to open that commitment's page. Leave the page and the announcement comes back. Tap "close", or go back, and the screen is as it was.
What's left of today is counted from the minute it rang, even when you tap the notice later.
The notice of one of your own you have since removed opens today instead and says "that announcement has been removed".
The foot of the settings page says: "a switched-off one is never delivered. each comes within a quarter of an hour of its time, and a tap opens the day it is about."
