Share a commitment

Everything that takes a commitment — anything on your calendar — somewhere else sits behind one button: "↗ take it elsewhere", the arrow in the bottom-right corner of the commitment's page. Its menu opens upwards, because there is no room below it.

#Share it as a line of text

1. Open the commitment's page — see A commitment's page.
2. Tap "↗ take it elsewhere".
3. Choose a row: - "↗ share" does two things at once. It puts the line on the shuttle — the suite's shared tray that every Zenith app can pick things up from — and opens the phone's own share sheet with the same text. - "⇪ hold in the shuttle" puts the line on the shuttle and nowhere else. It says "held in the shuttle".

If the shuttle won't take the line, the app says so instead: "the shuttle couldn't take that — it may be too long to hand over".

The line reads: "✦ ‹title› · ‹day› — zenith calendar · zenith://calendar/event/‹id›", with the title in lower case.

The day in it is the day you are looking at, not the day a repeat started on. A shared line naming the wrong day would end up in somebody else's calendar. The link at the end carries no day, so a page opened from it works out which day is meant. The link says "event" because that is the word all suite links use; in the app the word stays "commitment".

#Share from the day's brief

You can also share without opening the page.

1. On the sky — the calendar's main screen — hold a row in the day's brief, the list of a chosen day's commitments along the bottom.
2. Choose one of two separate rows: - "⇪ hold in the shuttle" puts the line on the shuttle and answers "held in the shuttle" — or "the shuttle couldn't take that — it may be too long to hand over" when the shuttle won't take it. - "↗ share" opens the phone's own share sheet only.

Here the shuttle and the share sheet are two different rows, not one.

#Hand it to Zenith Tasks

If a Zenith Tasks that can take it is installed, the menu shows "→ zenith tasks". Tap it to hand the commitment over with its title, its notes and a link back to this commitment. Without Zenith Tasks, the row is hidden.

#Hand it to Zenith Journal

If a Zenith Journal that can take a commitment is installed, the menu also shows "→ zenith journal". Tap it to hand the commitment, on the page's day, to the Journal: its card and, when it carries files, those files with the picture its page wears. It only sends; nothing about the commitment is written back in the calendar. Without the Journal, the row is hidden.

#Send it as a card

A card is one commitment as its own small file — "the way a calendar app hands you one". Sending a card is free.

1. Tap "↗ take it elsewhere", then "⊐ send it as a card".
2. The sheet is headed "send “‹title›” as a card".
3. If the commitment carries files, choose how they travel. The size shows as you choose — "that makes it ‹size›" — and the way you chose wears a tick:

With no files at all, the sheet says one line: "this one carries no material."

1. Tap a button: - "· save it ·" asks where. "with .zen" asks for a folder, because it writes two files. Every other way writes one file named after the commitment. - "· to the shuttle ·" puts the card on the shuttle, with its files as separate items. - "· not now ·" closes the sheet.

"remote .zen" needs a linked Google account. Without one, its line reads "remote .zen needs a google account — connect one in settings › connections", and nothing opens. See Connected accounts & Drive sync. If the files do not reach your Drive, no card is written at all — a link to nothing is worse than no card.

What "· save it ·" says back:

• "“‹title›” saved as a card"
• "“‹title›” saved · ‹n› file(s) in the .zen beside it"
• "“‹title›” saved — its ‹n› file(s) are on your google drive, by link"
• "nothing was saved — that card could not be written"

What "· to the shuttle ·" says back: "“‹title›” is on the shuttle as a card", or "“‹title›” is on the shuttle, with its material beside it".

#What a card carries

• The whole commitment, so whoever opens it gets everything, not a title and a date.
• The day you sent it from, not the day a repeat started on.
• Its almanac's identity — name, colour, mark and what it is for. An almanac is a named, coloured layer of commitments, like one calendar. The card never carries the almanac's internal number, which could attach it to a stranger's calendar.
• Its time zone, if its clock is kept somewhere else — see Time zones.
• The people on it, as names only — see People on a commitment.
• Not its files, unless you chose "with .zen" or "remote .zen".

#When a card arrives

The calendar asks "place “‹title›” on…" over the almanacs that can take it. The almanac with the sender's almanac's name is offered first, and a last line offers "make a new almanac for it".

Making a new almanac past three of your own needs Zenith Gold (Gold). That is checked at the tap, so a purchase made meanwhile counts.

If no almanac can take it: "no almanac here can take it — a locked one, an archived one, and one fed by a calendar that is read only cannot." More on arriving files is in Arriving files & shares.

#Where it is

• A commitment's page › "↗ take it elsewhere", bottom right.
• The sky › a day's brief › hold a row › "↗ share" or "⇪ hold in the shuttle".
• The shuttle itself is at settings › "shuttle".
