What it may say — notices
settings › "what it may say" has one switch for each kind of notice the journal can send. Nothing is said that isn't switched on here.
The phone's own switch
At the top, "the phone's own switch" says whether the phone lets the journal send notices at all. If not, "ask this phone to let it speak" asks the phone; on older phones it says where to look in the phone's settings.
The four
| switch | what it says | a tap opens | starts |
|---|---|---|---|
| "a nudge to write" — "a quiet line at the hour you choose, if you ask for one" | "nothing written today. the sky is there when you are." Nothing if you already wrote today | a new entry | off |
| "a backup finished" | "backed up", with what went in | settings › "files" | on |
| "a year ago today" | around 9 in the morning, on a day you wrote something a year before: "you wrote something on this day last year." — or how many things. Hidden entries, locked journals and the example journals are never counted | that entry | off |
| "an export finished" | "your gif is ready" or "your video is ready" — "tap to send it" — only when you left the journal while it was made | the share sheet for it | on |
The nudge's hour
While "a nudge to write" is on, a line says the hour — "at 9 in the evening." — and seven chips choose it: "7 in the morning", "9 in the morning", "midday", "6 in the evening", "8 in the evening", "9 in the evening", "10 in the evening". It starts at 9 in the evening.
What every notice keeps to
- It never says what you wrote, and never names an entry.
- It is never about a hidden entry.
- It is quiet: no vibration.
- Turning a switch off stops that kind being made, and takes back any already on the screen.
Ask the sky
Ask the sky can turn each of the four on or off, and set the nudge's hour — any hour, even one the chips don't offer. See What the sky can do — design, screens, settings & more.
