The filed day & where it happened
Every entry's header starts with its day and its place. Both sit at the top of compose, and both show at the top of the reader. After them come any extra headers its journals add — see Extra headers.
The filed day
The filed day is the day an entry belongs to — where its star sits along the year. It starts as the day it was written, and you can move it. Moving it never changes when the entry was written; that stays the truth.
In compose
- At the top, the filed line reads the app that wrote it, "filed" and the day, then "▾ change". A new entry's line starts "a new entry · ".
- Tap it. A date picker opens.
- Tap "that day" to move it, or "never mind" to back out.
On an entry already kept, the move is kept at once, and the line says "filed <day>" with "undo". On a new one it says "filed … · saved with the entry", and is kept with the first save. The entry keeps its place among that day's entries.
On the sky
- Hold a star until it lifts: "carrying it — let go to file it here".
- Let go over another day. The line says "filed on ‹day›". The height under your finger becomes its new height too.
- Your finger doesn't have to move: it lifts once the hold delay is up. Let go without moving and it is filed where your finger is.
- A back swipe from the edge, taken by the phone, files nothing.
- The star keeps the height you gave it everywhere it is drawn — the sky, its journal's page, the constellation widget, the journal's plate and its signature.
Another app's entry — Zenith Calendar's, say — can be filed on any day in your sky. The app that wrote it never changes.
Where it happened
"where it happened" is a place in your own words — "the long room", "mum's kitchen" — typed on the line under the filed day in compose.
- Nothing asks the phone where it happened, and nothing is filled in for you. The phone's location is used only for the day's sunrise and sunset.
- An entry Zenith Calendar wrote shows "where — " and Calendar's place until you type your own. Calendar's place is kept as it is; yours sits beside it.
- Sharing a map link into the Journal adds a pin to the entry it lands in, and says "a place came with it — name it in “where it happened”". With a pin, a small line under the field reads "◍ pinned · <where, in words>".
A place alone counts as a change: "save" keeps it, and so does leaving compose. A new entry that holds only a place is kept too. To clear it, delete the words.
In the reader, the place shows as "◍ <place>". Tap it to open Google Maps, or any map app, on the pin — or on the words when there is no pin. With no map app: "nothing on this phone opens a map". An entry with a pin but no words shows no place line.
Ask the sky
Ask the sky can move an entry to another day — when it was written stays the same — set how high its star sits, set where it happened, and open the place in a map app. See What the sky can do — entries & journals.
