Zenith gets killed / notifications die after reboot

How-to

Your notifications drift across the sky — your home screen — as comets you can catch. The quick ring — a bubble that opens the ring, a wheel of your apps, over any app — floats on top of whatever you're using. Both need Android to keep Zenith alive in the background. Some phones don't, especially after a restart. Here's how to fix it.

The symptom

  • Comets stop appearing. New notifications no longer streak across the sky.
  • The quick ring bubble vanishes after you restart the phone.
  • Zenith feels like it "resets" when you come back to it.

This is almost always your phone killing Zenith or dropping a permission — not the app turning itself off.

Fix 1 — re-connect the comet feed

Catching comets needs notification access, which you grant in your phone's system "notification access" screen, not inside Zenith.

  1. Open Settings and find the "comets · notifications" page.
  2. If it reads "enable comet feed →", tap it.
  3. In the system screen, turn notification access on for Zenith.

When it's connected, the page shows "comet feed connected ✦".

Fix 2 — keep Zenith running

A reboot or a battery cleanup can suspend Zenith so nothing reaches the sky.

  • Allow Zenith to run in the background, and to start on boot where your phone offers it.
  • Turn off battery optimization for Zenith.
  • The exact menus differ by brand — follow Per-OEM matrix.

Fix 3 — bring back the quick ring bubble

The quick ring runs as a background service and needs the "display over other apps" permission.

  1. Open Settings and turn on the "✦ quick ring — the ring over any app" toggle.
  2. If the permission is missing, the toggle sends you to the system "display over other apps" screen — grant it there.

If you don't use the quick ring, this doesn't affect your comets.

Your own Zenith notices

Zenith can also post its own notifications — for backups, Gold, and new Zenith apps. Each has its own on/off switch under Settings → "notifications", and a switch that's off means that kind is never posted, not just silenced. If one of those has gone quiet, check its switch there.
