An almanac's page

An almanac — one of your calendars, a named, coloured layer of commitments — has a page that shows everything it is and can do. The almanac sits in the middle with a ring of doors around it. Held sideways, or on a narrow phone, the doors move into banks beside or below it.

How it opens. Tap an almanac in the binder — the page where all your almanacs live, in order. A new almanac's page opens by itself.

#The top

• "‹ the binder" leads back.
• "AI" — "ask the sky about this almanac", using ask the sky, the calendar's built-in AI assistant. When it is off, it asks you to "turn on ask the sky in settings first".
• "shuttle" opens the Shuttle — the suite's shared tray for passing text and files between Zenith apps.
• When something is wrong, a gold line says so: "its calendar is gone from this phone", or "‹source› is not downloading it →", which opens Android's sync settings.

#The middle

The name and "N commitments ›". Tap it for the almanac's list. Each commitment shows its kind — ☄ once, ↻ repeating, ✦ yearly — with its title and date, then the time if it is timed. The date is written in the calendar system you use. An empty almanac says "a quiet almanac — nothing here yet".

When it is plugged in to a calendar outside Zenith, a line names the source, with its switches:

• "listening" / "paused" — whether it watches the source.
• "writes out" / "zenith only" — whether your edits go back. Shown only when the source accepts changes.
• "detail" / "plain" — shown only when it writes out.
• "unplug" — "unplugged — nothing was removed from its source". For a Drive copy it reads "take it off your drive", and asks first.

If an override in the binder holds these switches, they say so: "not watching · all" or "held back · all".

The two switches.

• "visible" — "drawn on the calendar" — or "eclipsed" — "eclipsed — kept, but not drawn". To eclipse is to hide an almanac without deleting anything.
• "locked" — "everything about it is shut — tap to unlock" — or "unlocked" — "open — it can be worked on".

Beside them sits its place in the order, "◂ N of M ▸". Tap the arrows to move it up or down.

#The doors

While you touch a door, a line at the bottom centre says what it is, or why it cannot open.

"make default" asks "make “‹name›” the default? every commitment you make from now on lands here unless you say otherwise." Tap "make it the default" or "undo". It refuses if the almanac is already the default, is archived, or its source will not accept anything.

"archive" keeps everything — its name, its colour, its place — but takes it off the calendar and off the legend, the row of almanac chips you tap to show or hide them. Tap "archive it" or "undo". It then waits in the binder under "archived · N ›", and this door reads "restore". Restoring acts at once. An archived almanac cannot be the default.

"drop" reads the same on every almanac, including the ones that came with the app. It asks "drop “‹name›”, and the N commitment(s) kept here go with it. this cannot be undone." Tap "drop it" or "undo". The page then closes. It takes the commitments, the almanac's file, its material, and any pictures nothing else uses. If the almanac is plugged in, it tells you nothing is removed from the source. The last almanac can never be dropped — the calendar always keeps one.

Locked. Every door but "export" is greyed with a padlock, and says "it is locked — unlock it first". The source switches are struck through the same way. Archive and drop are both refused.

A picture as its mark — "◈ a picture from this phone" — is Gold. Without Gold it opens the Gold offer.

#Bottom left

"voice" — "speak a commitment onto it" — and "add" — "put a commitment on it". Both put the new commitment on this almanac without changing the default. When the almanac cannot take one, they are dimmed and say why: "it is locked — unlock it first" or "its source will not accept anything".

Questions. Serious acts ask over a dark veil, in gold, with the act and "undo". A tap outside cancels.
