Time & directions

Reference

The "time & directions" page sets how the calendar counts and which way the sky — the whole calendar screen, one canvas that becomes each view — turns. It holds the calendar system, the start of the week, how the year ring is laid out, and three direction switches.

Where it is. Settings › time & directions ("calendar system · week start · orbit · spins"). The top of the page holds "calendar system", "names as" and "day names show as", covered on their own page. The settings below follow. The assistant can set every one of them by name.

"the week begins on"

Which weekday starts the week — the first main column of the week view and the first column of the month. Seven chips, one per weekday. Choosing one realigns the week already on screen. Default: monday.

While a calendar system other than gregorian is chosen, that tradition's own first day begins the week. The chips give way to one line naming the day, and your own choice comes back with gregorian.

"the year is anchored to"

What holds the bottom of the year ring — the orrery, your year drawn as an orbit round the sun. Default: the solstice.

ChipWhat it does
"the solstice"The solstices and equinoxes hold the compass points: the december solstice at the bottom, june's at the top, the equinoxes at the sides.
"new year's day"January 1 takes the bottom instead, and the whole calendar turns with it.

"the year ring shows"

Which stretch of time the year ring holds. Default: calendar year.

ChipWhat it does
"calendar year"January to december, with yesterday behind the earth.
"next 365 days"The ring rolls with you; the slot behind the earth is a year from now.

The three direction switches

SwitchWhat it doesDefault
"reverse the year orbit"Runs the year ring clockwise instead of in the sky's true direction. The earth, your commitments and what a tap on the ring picks all follow.Off — the true direction
"reverse the earth's spin"Turns the day globe the other way. The hours run the other way round the globe, and the sideways swipe from day to day goes the other way too.Off
"reverse the moon's spin"Reverses the sideways swipe in the week and month views, so weeks page and months roll the other way round.Off
