Place reminders
A star tied to a place speaks up when you get there. A star is how a task is drawn. It takes two steps: choose how Tasks may check, then give the star a place.
1 · Choose how Tasks checks
Open settings › "places & privacy" › "remind me at a place". It starts "off".
| choice | its line |
|---|---|
| "off" | "no place reminders" |
| "only while open" | "tasks checks where you are only while it's on screen" |
| "in the background" | "a small notification, “watching for your places”, lets tasks check while closed — it goes when you have no place reminders" |
| "all the time" | no notification; the phone wakes Tasks at your places |
Whatever you choose, it covers the places in every open sky. A closed sky's places are never watched, nor are the tutorial sky's or a demo sky's: closing a sky stops them, and opening it again starts them again.
2 · Give a star a place
- Open the star's edit sheet. Under "location", tap "set".
- Pin a place: tap "📍 use my current location", or type into "or search an address" and tap "find address".
- A map appears with "drag the map to fine-tune the pin." The 📍 stays in the middle and the map moves under it, so where you leave the map is where the pin is. Pinch to zoom.
- Slide "activation range", from 50 to 2000 m. It starts at 200 m. A blue circle round the pin shows it.
- Keep "location active" on. Off turns the reminder off without losing the place.
- Tap "save", then "save changes".
The row then reads the place and range, with "· off" when not active. "edit" and "clear" sit beside it.
A star with no place of its own uses its node's: "off — inherits from its node".
If place reminders are off when you save, settings › "places & privacy" opens: "place reminders are off — pick how tasks may check".
3 · Arriving
Inside the range, a "location arrivals" notification says "you've arrived — …", with the task's name — or "3 tasks at ‹place›", naming tasks from every open sky. Tapping it opens the star. If it's in another open sky, Tasks switches to that sky first.
In Tasks, the arrival window opens on its own:
- "📍 you're here" — "tasks for ‹place›:", or "tasks for this place:". It lists only tasks in the sky on screen.
- Tap ○ to complete a task. It puts up the undo pill, cancels the task's reminder and runs talismans that wait for a completion, and the task leaves the list.
- Tap a title to open its edit sheet.
- "dismiss" closes it.
It won't remind you again until you leave and come back.
While settings › "reminders" › "place arrivals follow quiet hours" is on — as it starts — an arrival inside quiet hours waits and comes at their end, and one past "interruptions a day" is dropped. See Quiet hours & the daily limit.
The "places" tile
Add it from the phone's quick settings. It reads "off", "while open" or "watching" — "watching" for both "in the background" and "all the time".
When place reminders are on, a tap turns them off. When they're off, a tap opens settings › "places & privacy", so you choose there.
