Almanacs & the legend

An almanac is one of your calendars — a named, coloured layer of commitments. It is either one of your own, kept in Zenith, or fed from a calendar already on the phone. Several almanacs share one sky — the whole calendar screen — and the legend — the row of almanac chips — turns them on and off without leaving it.

#What an almanac holds

• a name and a colour;
• whether it is shown or eclipsed — hidden for now, with nothing deleted — and whether it is archived;
• a mark — the small symbol or picture it wears: a glyph, an icon-pack drawing, or a picture from the phone (Gold);
• a description of what it is for, which travels with it;
• the look its commitments' pages wear;
• how much warning its commitments — the events and things to do inside it — get, its evening notice and its sound.

#A few rules

• One source at most. An almanac is plugged into at most one place outside Zenith, or into none. None is "an ordinary and complete thing to be".
• The lock. A locked almanac refuses every change. You can still show it, eclipse it and reorder it.
• Where new commitments can go. Only into an almanac that is not archived, not locked and, if it is fed from the phone, writable.
• The free three. "personal" and "work" come with the app and are yours from day one. The holiday, celestial and astrology almanacs ship with it. None of these count. Three almanacs you make or bring in are free; more are (Gold).
• The sky's own almanacs. "celestial", "astrology · western" and "astrology · vedic" belong to the sky itself and are drawn in its outer belt.
• The calendar always keeps one. The last almanac can never be deleted. If you try to drop it — delete it and everything in it — the calendar asks as usual, then keeps it and says "the calendar always keeps one almanac". "burn" is not offered in "edit this almanac" when only one is left. Archiving is not deleting, so this rule does not stop it.

#The legend — the chips

Tap the "almanacs" book at the bottom right. A small cluster of chips floats up beside it. Back closes it. Holding the book skips the chips and opens the binder — the page where all your almanacs live, in order.

• Each chip is a dot in the almanac's colour and its name. The dot is filled when the almanac is shown and a ring when it is eclipsed. The default almanac's name ends in " ◉". Archived almanacs have no chip.
• "manage ▸", after the last chip, opens the binder.

Tap a chip to eclipse it or bring it back. The notice line says "“‹name›” eclipsed" or "“‹name›” returns to the calendar".

Hold a chip for a small menu at the chip:

• its name, and "N this year · on the calendar" (or "· eclipsed"). A chip fed by a phone calendar adds where it reads from or syncs with, or that it is paused.
• colour dots. Pick one and tap "✓ keep this light" to save it. Every colour is shown. Without Gold, the vivid ones are dimmed and marked ✦; tapping one closes the menu and opens the Gold offer on "the vivid colours" (Gold).
• "✎ rename" — the name becomes a field with "✓".
• "☰ its commitments" — its list of commitments.
• "◉ make default" — shown only for an almanac that can take commitments and is not already the default. It says "new commitments land in “‹name›”".
• "… more" — opens the "edit this almanac" dialog.

Locked almanacs. Renaming or recolouring a locked almanac is refused with the refuse sound and "“‹name›” is locked — unlock it first".
