Reading a star
Every task is drawn as a star in the bloom — the rings that open where you touch — at its own angle and orbit on its parent's ring. Its marks tell you what kind of task it is and what it carries.
The star itself
A star has a soft glow, a dark core and a coloured outline. If you gave the task a picture, the picture sits in a circle where the star was. See Words, colours & marks on a task.
What the marks mean
| what you see | what it means |
|---|---|
| one centre dot | a plain task, holding nothing |
| a centre dot, an inner ring and three small dots circling | a node — a task that holds others |
| an arc round a node, clockwise from the top | how much of the node is done |
| a dim hollow star with a slash | done |
| a thin outer band | the task opens as a card |
| a bright ring in a colour | a flag |
| a thin pale dashed ring | a gate — the node can't complete until what's inside is done |
| a pale gold dot on top | a reminder still to come |
| a small ice-blue dot, upper right | an attachment |
| a pale gold ring | waiting |
| a mint dot, lower right | its "show only when…" context is true now |
A done star wears the hollow star and slash only, none of the other marks.
The progress arc
The arc runs as long as the share of the node's tasks that are done. It counts only the tasks directly inside, not deeper ones, and it appears once at least one is done.
Completing a node marks everything inside it done too. The node then shows as a done star, without its arc.
"• details" in the dock shows the same count as "stars inside" — "N of M done".
The label
A label is the task's name written beside its star. It shows the first 22 letters of the title. A done task's label is dimmer.
Under it, a dimmer second line shows the subtitle, first 24 letters, but only while the star isn't under your finger — so in practice only with "labels" on "always".
When labels show, and where they sit, are on Layout & size.
Touching a star
A star you touch pulses and grows a little, and, with sound on, plays its note. With "magnifier" on it grows about twice its size. See Ease.
