Bring to life (Gold)
Bring to life puts time over a designed slide. Each slide becomes a scene — its title, words and pictures moving on their own for a few seconds, with no taps. It is journal gold: "bring to life: scenes, keyframes, effects, transitions and camera moves" (Gold). It works on one entry or on a whole journal's presentation.
Open it
Every door asks for journal gold first, and opens the Gold sheet without it:
- design: "bring to life ✦" — your slides are kept first;
- the reader: "bring it to life ✦", when the entry has slides but no scenes;
- the entry's ⋯ menu: "bring it to life ✦", when it has no scenes.
If nothing has been designed yet: "this hasn't been designed yet, and a scene is a slide with time over it." with "design it first". See Design slides.
It starts already done
One scene per slide, built from the design. Scenes follow the slides: a changed slide keeps its timing, a new slide gets a scene, a gone slide takes its scene with it.
The room
- The top — "‹ bring to life" leaves. On the right, which scene and how long — "2 of 5 · 3.0 s" — then "AI" — shown only while the AI is on for this app — and "shuttle". After something that can be taken back, "undo" (or "redo") sits just before them.
- The stage — the open scene, drawn at the moment the timeline is on. Tap a box to pick it up; tap empty space to put it down.
- The timeline — "at 1.2 s of 3.0", with " · a keyframe is here" when the picked thing has one now. The slider scrubs through the scene.
- Scene numbers — "1", "2"…, the open one shown "· 2 ·". A tap opens that scene at 0 s and puts the thing down.
- The hint line — "tap something on the slide to bring it to life", or "holding one thing · what it does is written at this moment".
"the scene"
- "how long it lasts · 3.0 s" — a slider from half a second to 10 seconds.
- "how it arrives" — "straight there", "fades in", "wipes in from the right", "wipes in from the left", "wipes in from below", "wipes in from above", "rises in", plus any installed pack's arrivals, marked ✦.
- "the pause after it · 0.4 s" — "the background alone, before the next scene arrives." Up to 5 seconds.
- "the whole thing" — how many scenes, the seconds in all, and what it fits: "short enough for a gif", "too long for a gif, fine for a video", or "too long for a gif or a video — a video holds a minute".
- "▶ play it all".
"this thing"
Needs a picked thing first, or says "tap something on the slide first". Everything here is written at the timeline's moment.
- "where it is, at this moment" — "← left", "right →", "↑ up", "down ↓".
- "how big, how turned, how much it shows" — "bigger", "smaller", "turn ↻", "turn ↺", "gone", "half there", "all there".
- "what it wears, all scene long" — "still", "drifts, slowly", "breathes — grows and settles", "twinkles", "rises as it arrives", "falls into place", plus pack looks ✦.
- "the moments" — how many and when, then "write this moment down" (or "write over this moment"), "take this moment away" when one is here ("the moment is gone"), and "still again", which takes every moment and effect off the thing: "back where design put it". Both have "undo", then "redo".
A moment is one point in a scene's time where you set what a thing is doing. Between moments, the app moves it from one to the next.
"the camera"
"the whole slide, moved as one — under everything that moves on it." — "held still", "pushes in", "pulls out", "pans left", "pans right", plus pack moves ✦.
"captions"
Words shown on the picture, and burnt into a gif or a video you export while settings › "ease" › "captions on videos" is on. Off, the gif or video is made without them.
- Type in "say something here — it lands at 4.5s".
- Tap "✛ 2s", "✛ 3s" or "✛ 5s" to lay it down for that long.
Laying one down says "said at …", with "undo". Each line shows its times, its words and "take it out"; taking one out says "that line is out", with "undo". A line never covers one already there; it says "something is already said at …" instead. The time is the whole show's, not the scene's. Captions are kept the moment they are laid down or taken out.
Drop from the shuttle
Let a shuttle item go on the stage and the slide under it takes it, as in design: a picture or a video becomes a box centred there; words become a new paragraph in a text box — with no room for the box, "this slide is full — the words are at the end of the entry"; any other file goes into the entry's files. Every drop has "undo", and undo takes back the file it brought. See The Shuttle in the Journal.
Leaving
Every menu closes with its "‹ title" line, "· done ·", a tap outside, or back. Leaving by any road keeps the scenes — but only if it was already alive or you changed something; looking alone never makes an entry animated.
"still again" clears one thing's moments, and "take this moment away" clears one; each has "undo", then "redo" — at the foot, and on the undo button in the top right. See Undo & earlier versions.
When the scenes changed, leaving keeps the entry as it was as an earlier version in its history, so you can bring it back. See Save & earlier versions.
Then
"▶ play it all" opens play. See Play. To send it out as a gif or a video, see Share an entry (Gold).
