A journal's signature
A journal's signature is its constellation drawing itself: "its stars appear, the lines you drew trace between them, their titles fade in, and the journal's name settles". It plays once and stops on the settled name.
Each star sits where the home sky has it, zoomed out to fit — on the day it is filed on, at its height (where you put it, if you carried it), in its own shape — on screen and in a gif or video alike.
Watching it is free; saving it as a gif or a video is journal gold (Gold).
Watch it
- On the journal's page, tap ⋯, then under "look at it" tap "its signature" — "watch the constellation draw itself, on its own". It shows only when the journal holds an entry.
- On the journal's share page, under "its signature", tap "watch it".
- Opening a journal plays it by itself — see below.
It plays on a black page of its own. "again" plays it from the start. The line under it says "it is drawn in a process of its own, so nothing that happens to it can touch the journal." "‹ back", or back, closes it. If the journal has gone: "that journal is gone."
When it plays by itself
As a journal's page opens, the signature plays while all three hold:
- settings › "ease" › "play a journal's signature when it opens" is on — it starts on;
- reduce motion is off;
- the journal holds something.
"skip ▸" in the bottom right stops it at rest. Off, the journal opens on the same settled picture, with nothing to wait for.
With reduce motion
It is drawn at its end — every star, line, title and the name, at rest — with "reduce motion is on, so it is shown settled rather than arriving." There is no "again".
As a gif or a video (Gold)
"✦ a gif" and "✦ a video · 9:16" write the signature out as a file. It shows "making … · <what it will be>", then a percentage, then opens the phone's share sheet. Without journal gold a tap opens the Gold sheet.
A hidden entry's star and the lines to it are left out. See Share a journal (Gold).
