What the sky can do — entries & journals
This page lists, in plain words, what you can ask ask the sky — the Journal's AI — to do with your entries and journals. You ask on its sheet; Ask the sky in the Journal says where that is.
It never sees a hidden entry, or an entry in a locked journal.
Find and read
- Search your entries' titles, words, tags, file names, place, extra headers and what an app sent, as the list's search does.
- Read an entry: its words, tags, file names, its place, what it is tied to, what it is "also about", which files each page holds, how many slides and scenes it has, and each extra header with its value.
- List an entry's earlier versions, and read one whole.
- List an entry's pop-ups and what each opens.
- List what was filed on any one day.
Write and change entries
- Write a new entry on a day you name — today when you don't — with a title and words. It is kept at once, loose.
- Change an entry's title, the words of one page, add a page or remove one. The words as they were go into its history.
- Move an entry to another day. When it was written stays the same.
- Set how high its star sits in the sky, from the top down to just above the year's path.
- Set where it happened, in words, with a map pin if you give one.
- Set what it says under one of its journals' extra headers, by the header's name.
- Replace its tags.
- Give it a star and a colour, or set it back to its journal's — a vivid colour needs journal gold.
- Tie two entries, or untie them.
- Bring an earlier version back.
- Ignore a word so it is never shown as what an entry is "also about", or take it back off the list, or say which words are ignored.
Files and recordings
- Place one of an entry's files in its words, at the end of a page.
- Take a file off an entry.
- Make one of its sound files the entry itself — a spoken entry — or make it a written entry again.
- Write a spoken entry's recording out as words, below the recording.
Taking a photo, recording, and picking files from the phone stay yours.
Pop-ups
- Make a pop-up on words you quote exactly — a note, a link, one of the entry's pictures, one of its other files, or another entry (Gold).
- Change what a pop-up opens, or its name.
- Take a pop-up off; the words stay.
Journals
- List your journals, with how many entries each holds. A locked journal is named, but never opened.
- Make a journal with the name you give it, at the end of the desk.
- Rename a journal, close it or reopen it.
- Move a journal to a place on the desk.
- Show or hide one journal's stars on the home sky, or the loose entries'. Nothing is deleted.
- Give a journal its star and colour — vivid colours need journal gold.
- File an entry in a journal, or take it out. A journal that is closed, put away or locked is refused, in the same words as the app.
- Connect two stars, as a star's "connect" does.
- List, add, change or remove a journal's extra headers — never a locked journal's.
- Set the tags a journal's gravity pulls in, and let gravity file (Gold).
- Let them settle — file every loose entry a journal's gravity claims, across all journals (Gold).
- Set the template a journal's undesigned entries start from, or "none" (Gold).
Keeping and letting go
- Hide an entry. Once hidden, only you can stop hiding it.
- Put an entry or a journal away into the reliquary, or set it out again.
- Send an entry to the burn pile, or delete a journal to it — asked first. See Things it asks first.
- List what is on the burn pile, with the days left, look inside a burning journal, and pull something back.
- Burn the burn pile now — all of it, or only its journals or its entries — asked first.
- Say what lies on any shelf: the desk, loose pages or the reliquary.
- Put the example journals in, or take them out.
What stays yours
Locking or opening a journal, a passphrase, opening an entry's ⋯ menu, un-hiding an entry, and every touch on the sky.
