What Zenith Tasks is
Zenith Tasks is a to-do app drawn as a night sky. The app says it in one line: "your tasks as a sky — stars are the things to do, and a star that holds others is a node."
It is built by Black Syntax and is part of the Zenith Suite. See The Zenith Suite & broker.
Six words
The whole app is built on six words. The app and ask the sky — its built-in assistant — use the same ones.
- A task is one thing to do. Every task is the same kind of item, nested as deep as you like.
- A star is how a task is drawn.
- A node is a task that holds others.
- A sky is one whole Tasks file — every task in it. You can keep several.
- The bloom is the rings that open where you touch, outward from your finger.
- A region is a part of the screen that opens its own bloom, with its own top-level tasks.
Each is explained on Tasks, stars, nodes, skies, blooms & regions.
Touch the sky and it blooms
You touch the screen and a bloom opens outward from your finger, with your tasks as stars on rings. Lift on a star that holds nothing and it is done. Rest on a node and its own ring opens on top. See The bloom.
The same sky can also be shown as "list" — an indented outline — or "matrix", four boxes sorted by urgent and important (Gold). See List view and The matrix (Gold).
Your first sky
A fresh install opens on an empty sky, "my tasks". The welcome card offers two things, both off to start: the tutorial sky, "✦ Learn Zenith Tasks" — 12 top-level items and 71 tasks in all — and demo content, someone else's sky to explore. Add either later in settings › "files". Neither counts toward the free limits. See Your first five minutes, The tutorial sky & demo content and The skies page.
Zenith Gold
Zenith Gold — the one-time paid upgrade — lifts this app's limits for $1.99, once. It is never a subscription, and it is never shared with the other Zenith apps.
What stays free, in the app's own words: "every task, reminder, capture, widget and ask the sky are free — and stay free, with 3 skies open at once and 2 regions in each."
Gold opens:
- every theme beyond clean, mono and pastel
- custom colours and your own background picture
- your own pictures as node symbols
- the matrix view
- analyze
- chat memory
- more than 3 talismans
- more than 3 of your own skies open at once — the tutorial and demo skies don't count
- folds & tablets
- more than 2 regions in a sky
See Zenith Gold in Tasks.
Who makes it
settings › "about" names the app, carries the line above, and reads "version 1.0.0 (10000)" and "built by black syntax · part of the zenith suite". Under "contact & publishing" are "zenith suite", "black syntax · developer" and "friend castle · publisher", each with an email and a site ↗. Under "feedback", "tell us what tasks got wrong — it reaches a person", and "write to support" opens your mail app.
How this guide writes things
Every control is named by the label it wears on screen, in the app's own lowercase, in quotes — "add task", "save changes". A path through settings looks like settings › "touch" › "mode". A glyph is named the first time it appears on a page, like the plus ✚. Anything Gold opens is tagged (Gold).
