Journal words

Reference

The words Zenith Journal uses, in plain terms. Words shared by every Zenith app are in Glossary.

Also about — the words the journal finds by itself under an entry, each marked ◌. Tap one and the list shows the entries about it. Hold one to "ignore “<word>”"; small words are left out anyway. The words you ignore are in settings › "the journal" › "also about". See The reader.

Arrival — something that comes into the Journal from outside — words or a file shared from another app, a line selected elsewhere, or an item picked up from the shuttle. It lands on "something arrived". See Something arrived — sharing into the Journal.

Ask the sky — the Journal's built-in AI assistant. You type or say a question about your journal, and it answers and can act on it. See Ask the sky in the Journal.

Burn pile — where an entry or a journal you delete waits thirty days before it is destroyed. You can pull it back the whole time. See The reliquary & the burn pile.

Constellation — a journal as the sky draws it: its entries' stars, joined by the lines you drew. It is drawn the same everywhere — its page, its plate, its signature and the constellation widget are the sky zoomed out to fit. See The sky.

Echo — a star you wrote on this date last year, shown again on today's line — hollow, labelled "a year ago". See A year ago today.

Entry — one piece of your writing: its words in paragraphs and pages, its tags, ties and files. In the sky it is a star. See Entries, stars, journals & constellations.

Escritoire — the writing desk where your journals lie as glass plates, and where they are made. The first of four shelves. See The escritoire.

Etching — the constellation drawn on a journal's plate. See The escritoire.

Extra header — a field a journal adds, such as "mood", which every entry in it shows after its day and place. See Extra headers.

Filed day — the day an entry belongs to — where its star sits along the year — which can differ from when you wrote it. See The filed day & where it happened.

Gravity — a journal gathering entries by itself, by the tags they carry (Gold). See Gravity & a journal's template (Gold).

Halo — the soft glow around each star. See Themes, colours & the sky's look.

Hidden — an entry kept out of insights, the widgets, notices, ask the sky, the shuttle and a journal you share, while it stays in the sky, the list and its journals. See Hide an entry.

Insights — the view that counts what you write (Gold). See Insights (Gold).

Journal — a named, ordered group of entries. One entry can be in several. See Entries, stars, journals & constellations.

Journal gold — the Journal's one-time paid upgrade, $1.99 once, for this app only. See Journal Gold.

Lens — an answer style from Zenith AI: "how the sky answers, not who answers". See Ask the sky in the Journal.

Loose — an entry in no journal. Loose pages is their shelf. See File entries in & out.

Materials — the files an entry holds: pictures, videos, sounds, documents. See Photos, files & voice notes.

Moment — one point in a scene's time where you set what something on the slide is doing (Gold). See Bring to life (Gold).

My sky — the real stars over where you are, in place of the invented starfield (Gold). See Themes, colours & the sky's look.

Nebula — the slow cloud of colour behind the stars. See Themes, colours & the sky's look.

Orbits — the view of your journals as planets, their entries as moons, and loose entries circling the sun. See The orbits & "file in…".

Plate — a journal as it lies on the escritoire: glass, with its constellation etched on it — the sky zoomed out to fit, each star on its day, at its height, in its own shape. See The escritoire.

Pop-up — words made tappable, opening a note, a picture, another entry, a link or a file. Making one is Gold; reading one is free. See Pop-ups.

Presentation — a journal laid out as slides, one per entry to start. See Design slides.

Pull — two things: a journal's gravity, the tags by which it pulls entries in; and "pull it back", taking something off the burn pile.

Reliquary — the shelf where things you put away are kept whole, off the desk and out of the sky. See The reliquary & the burn pile.

Scene — a slide brought to life: things on it appear, move and act over time (Gold). See Bring to life (Gold).

Signature — a journal's constellation, appearing: its stars arrive, the lines trace, the titles fade in, the name settles. See A journal's signature.

Slide — one still page of an entry's design, on a canvas. See Design slides.

Spoken entry — an entry whose recording is the entry itself — "say it now, write it out later". See Spoken entries & write it out.

Star — one entry in the sky, on the day it is filed, at the height you put it. See The sky.

The shuttle — the suite's shared tray for passing words and files between the Zenith apps on your phone. See The Shuttle in the Journal.

The sky — the Journal's home view: every entry a star along the year. See The sky.

The spine — the part of an entry that means the same thing in every Zenith app, shared with Zenith Calendar. See How the Journal fits the suite.

Template (a journal's) — a template a journal names, which an entry in it with no design yet, and its presentation, start from in the designer. Choosing one is Gold. See Gravity & a journal's template (Gold).

Theme — the sky's look: "clean", "mono", "pastel" free, the other seven Gold. See Themes, colours & the sky's look.

Tie — two entries marked as about the same thing, read the same from either end. Not a constellation line. See Tags, ties, star & colour.

Tulpa — the suite's word for the AI who answers you in every Zenith app; Cielo by default. See Ask the sky in the Journal.

Undo / redo — the curled arrow in the top right corner, there only after something that can be taken back. "undo" puts it back; when it can be done again it turns into "redo". One step, not a history. See Undo & earlier versions.

✦ — the mark for Gold — "✦ gold", "✦ locked by gold — …" — and on ask the sky's sheet, for the AI. See Journal Gold.
