Flicks

What it is. A flick — a quick, short swipe on the sky — your home screen. Each direction (up, down, left, right) can run its own shortcut.

How to do it. Swipe fast in one direction and let go. A flick has to travel a short distance quickly; a slow or tiny drag does nothing. Hold still instead of moving and you bloom the ring, not a flick.

Defaults.

• Flick up → deep sky — the full A–Z list of every app.
• Flick down → shade — the notification shade.
• Flick left and flick right → unassigned.

Left and right ship empty because, on phones that use gesture navigation, the system back swipe wins over a sideways flick. See Gestures conflict with system gestures.

What affects it. Direction is read from the way your finger travels most. Any flick can be rebound to an app, folder, shortcut, or system action — see Assign an action to a gesture. You'll find the four flick pickers in Settings › gestures.
