Time zones

A timed commitment — anything on your calendar, an event or a thing to do — keeps its clock in a place. An all-day commitment floats: a birthday is the same date everywhere.

How it works. A meeting set for 9:00 in New York is 9:00 there. On a phone in Los Angeles it is drawn at 6:00, and it rings at the real moment. A commitment kept in another zone is drawn on the day and time it falls where you are.

#In the editor

For a timed commitment, two rows appear under "what time".

• "time zone" shows "‹city› · here". Choose another place and it brings "there" and "here". They say which clock the time above is typed on, with a line such as "the time above is the time here". Flipping between them never moves the moment.
• "ends in" — "the same place" or "another place…" — is for trips. A flight leaves on the clock of where it leaves, and lands on the clock of where it lands.

#Choose a time zone

Tap the "time zone" chip, or "ends in" › "another place…". A list opens, headed "its time zone" or "it ends in".

• Search. Type in the box, "a city". It finds places by name, region or offset.
• Rows read like "tokyo · asia · utc+9". This phone's own zone adds " · here". The list holds the world's cities by region, plus utc.
• Order. With nothing typed: here first, then the last six places you chose, then everything else.
• "the same place" is the first row when you choose where it ends.
• "never mind" closes the list with nothing changed.

#On the page

A commitment's page shows both clocks, as in "5p here · 9a los angeles". A flight shows where it leaves and where it lands, with its real length — for example "10a tokyo → 10:30p honolulu, sep 24".
