Tags, ties, star & colour

How-to

The "journals & tags" tab of compose holds everything an entry belongs to or is drawn as: its tags, its star, its colour, its journals and its ties. Open compose on the entry and tap "journals & tags".

Its journals have their own page: File entries in & out.

Tags

A tag is a lower-case word for a topic. An entry can have many, and one tag can sit on many entries.

  • Type in "add a tag — one word or a few", then a comma or a new line — or tap "✛ #" and the tag.
  • "used before:" offers up to eight tags your other entries use, most used first, narrowed to what you are typing. A hidden entry's tags are never offered. Tap one to add it.
  • Each tag shows as "#tag ×". Tap it to take it off.

Tags are kept lower case, without the #, each once. They wait for "save" — or for you to leave compose — like the words do.

With journal gold, a journal whose gravity pulls in by a tag files the entry when it is kept (Gold) — unless that journal is closed, put away or locked. See Gravity & a journal's template (Gold).

Its star

"how this entry is drawn in the sky. leave it and it takes its journal's star, or the usual one."

Tap "the usual" or one of twelve shapes, each with its name: "✦ a point", "✧ an open point", "★ five points", "☆ five points, hollow", "✶ six points", "✷ eight points", "✹ many points", "❋ a bloom", "✳ spokes", "◆ a diamond", "◇ a ring", "● a dot". "the usual" means its journal's star, or "a point" when the journal has none.

Its colour

"how this entry is coloured in the sky. ◇ wears its journal's colour; any other is its own."

  • ◇ "its journal's colour" first;
  • 24 soft colours;
  • 18 vivid colours, marked ✦ (Gold) — without journal gold they are dimmed, and a tap opens the Gold sheet;
  • ◉ "any colour, on a wheel".

Hold a swatch to hear its name.

Which colour shows: the entry's own; else the colour of the first journal holding it that has one, in the order the journals lie on the desk; else none. What you see is then filtered by your colour strength and the sky's theme; the theme never changes the colour you chose. See Themes, colours & the sky's look.

The star and colour are kept the moment you tap, with "undo". On a new entry they say "… · saved with the entry".

Ties

A tie marks two entries as about the same thing. It reads the same from either one: each lists the other under "tied to".

  • Tie: type in "✛ tie to an entry — search its words", then tap the entry you mean. The line says "tied to" and the title, with "undo".
  • Untie: tap "untie" under an entry in "tied to". It says "untied", with "undo".

With none: "nothing yet. a tie marks two entries as about the same thing — it reads the same from either one."

A tie is made at once. A brand-new entry, never saved yet, is kept first, so the other side has something to point back to. An entry already kept is tied or untied without saving its words, tags, pop-ups, place or extra headers, which still wait for "save". A tie is not a line in a constellation.

A tie or an untie can also be taken back with the "undo" button at the top right while you stay in compose. See Undo & earlier versions.

In the reader, entries under "tied to" open in the reader too. A tie to another Zenith app's thing opens in that app, or says "zenith <app> is not on this phone".
