Pinch to zoom the ring

Reference
animationTwo fingers pinching an open ring to change its size.Screenshot coming soon
A second finger pinches to grow or shrink the ring while it stays open.

What it is. While a ring — a wheel of your apps — is bloomed under your held finger, a second finger pinches it larger or smaller without closing it. Useful when a ring is crowded or the stars sit too close together.

How to do it. Keep your first finger down to hold the ring open. Put a second finger on empty space and pinch out to grow the ring or pinch in to shrink it. The stars spread apart or draw in as you go.

What affects it.

  • There are limits. The ring only zooms within a set range, so it can't shrink to nothing or swell past a point.
  • It resets each time. Every fresh hold opens the ring at its normal size — the zoom does not carry over.
  • Where the second finger lands matters. On empty space it zooms. On an active dock button (add, or re-place / edit / remove once a star is armed) that button fires instead and there is no zoom.
  • Both hold modes work. Pinch-zoom works whether you keep holding the ring open or you've lifted to latch it open.
  • Lifting. Lift the second finger to go back to the ordinary hold — slide to a star and release to open it. Lift both fingers and the ring closes with nothing launched.

Pinch-zoom is a sky gesture only. The Quick Ring bubble over other apps does not have it; see Quick Ring over any app.
