Install & make it your calendar

Nothing is asked when the calendar first opens. The sky — the whole calendar screen — draws, a few almanacs are already there, and a short setup sheet offers to make Zenith the phone's calendar.

#What you find on the first open

• A starry loading screen. While your almanacs are read, twinkling stars stand in on black, with the words "retrieving almanacs & their commitments" and a bar of stars that light one by one. A small calendar opens fast enough that you may only see the dark.
• Almanacs, ready to use. An almanac — one of your calendars, a named, coloured layer of commitments — called "personal", another called "work", and a holidays almanac named "holidays · united states". The other stock almanacs come too.
• Most of them switched on. "personal", "work", "celestial" and every holiday almanac but one are on. "holidays · orthodox" (also locked), "astrology · western" and "astrology · vedic" start eclipsed — hidden, but kept.
• Reminders on, the rest quiet. Commitment reminders are on. The morning summary and the day-before notice start off.

None of these almanacs count toward your three free ones.

#No permission on launch

The calendar does not ask for anything at first. It asks for location the first time you enter the day view, so it can draw real daylight, or from my sky — the real stars over where you are, drawn behind the calendar (Gold). It asks for notifications once, after you place your first commitment — anything on your calendar, an event or a thing to do. Quietly, Gold is restored from Play if your account owns it, and the "Place in Calendar" and "tomorrow plan" shortcuts are added.

#Make Zenith your calendar

Android has no single "default calendar" setting. So the "make zenith your calendar" sheet builds one from real steps, and it never claims to have set a default. It offers itself once, shortly after the sky first draws, when you open the app plainly. Closing it any way counts as seen. A step you have done shows ✦.

1. Under "let zenith see this phone's calendars", tap "allow calendar access" and allow reading and writing calendars.
2. Under "feed personal and work from the calendars you already use", tap "feed personal" or "feed work". Each opens that almanac's page with its "what feeds it" sheet up, so you can pick a phone calendar to fill it. The button then says how the feed is doing: "fed by “‹calendar›”", paused, or gone.
3. Under "quiet your old calendar app", tap "open notification settings". It opens your old calendar app's notification page — Google, Samsung, the phone's own or Outlook — or the list of all apps if none of those is installed. Quiet its notifications there.
4. Under "open zenith when something wants a date", there is no button. The next time an app opens a date or makes an event, pick Zenith and tick always.
5. Under "carry your almanacs between your devices", tap "set up syncing" to open the connections page.
6. Tap "· done ·" to close the sheet.

#Come back to it later

Open Settings › make zenith your calendar. Its second line tells you where things stand:

• "set up";
• "the calendar feeding “‹name›” is gone — link it again";
• "“‹name›” is paused — resume it on its page";
• "not yet — set it up".
