Reminders

Zenith rings for each timed commitment — anything on your calendar, an event or a thing to do — with an exact alarm. It sets one per commitment per day, for the next 30 days. Each kind of notification has its own switch.

Where it is. Settings › notifications ("reminders · the morning"), and also Android's own notification settings for the app. The calendar asks for notification permission once, after you place your first commitment. On Android 13 and later it asks again if you turn a kind on without it.

#The four kinds

Each kind is its own switch on the page, and its own channel in Android's settings.

A switched-off kind is never delivered — not silenced, never sent. Every notification carries Zenith's star and opens inside the calendar. The last three kinds are covered on their own page.

#"how much warning, unless an almanac says otherwise"

How long before a timed commitment its reminder rings. Six chips: "at the moment", "5 min", "10 min", "30 min", "an hour", "a day". Default: at the moment. Choosing one resets every reminder at once.

An almanac — one of your calendars, a named, coloured layer of commitments — set to "as the app does" follows this choice. An almanac with its own answer keeps it. A single commitment has no warning of its own; it comes from its almanac or the app.

#What rings, and what it says

• What rings. Every timed commitment in the next 30 days, at its start minus its warning. All-day commitments get no reminder at the moment they start. Zenith rings for everything it shows — its own almanacs and the phone's own calendars alike — and writes nothing into the phone's own reminders.
• The notification. The title is the commitment's name in lowercase. The body says how far ahead, the time in 24-hour form, the place, who joins, then "zenith calendar". For example: "in 30 minutes · 19:00 · the long room · with ana & leo · zenith calendar". With more people it reads "with ana, leo & 2 more".
• Tap it to open the commitment's page on that day. There is no snooze and no button on the notification.
• Its sound is the commitment's own tone, else its almanac's, else the app's default. Even a chosen tone answers to the "commitment reminders" switch: with it off, no reminder is delivered.
• Before it rings, Zenith checks the commitment is still on the calendar at that day and time, so a deleted or moved one stays silent.

#On the minute, and the limit

Alarms are exact and still fire while the phone is idle; a calendar app is granted this on install. If you switch "Alarms & reminders" off for the app, a reminder rings within a 10-minute window rather than being lost.

Android lets one app hold at most 240 alarms, so Zenith holds the nearest ones first. Past that, the page shows in gold how many commitments in the next month will not ring until something closer passes.

#When reminders are reset

Zenith walks the next 30 days again, sets what is wanted and cancels what is not:

• after every change to the calendar, from any source — the screen, a voice capture, a sibling app or the assistant;
• as the app opens and as it leaves the screen;
• after a restart, a time-zone change (stepping off a plane), the clock being set, an app update, and "Alarms & reminders" being switched back on;
• when the warning time or an evening-before switch changes.

The assistant can switch each kind on or off and set the warning.
