Troubleshooting

Reference

Each entry below names what you notice, then what is behind it and where to look. A star is one task as it's drawn; a node is a task holding others; the bloom is the rings of your tasks that open where you touch.

A reminder did not arrive

  • The task was already done. A done star stays quiet.
  • Quiet hours. A reminder inside them waits and arrives at the "quiet until" hour. See Quiet hours & the daily limit.
  • The daily limit. Past "interruptions a day", the rest of today's reminders are dropped for good.
  • The kind is off. With "task reminders" off in settings › "notifications", nothing is shown. See Which alerts you get.
  • The sky is closed. A task in a closed sky never pings. Open the sky again and its reminders come back.
  • It's the tutorial sky or a demo sky. Those skies never ring, even while open. See The tutorial sky & demo content.

Tasks doesn't use exact alarms, so a reminder may come a little late while the phone sleeps.

A task won't complete

It says "finish the tasks inside first — this one completes only when they're done."

The task is a gated node — set to "complete only when the stars inside are done" — and something inside is still open. Finish those, and it completes itself. Or switch the gate off on its edit sheet. See Nodes & gates.

Lifting on a node does nothing

In "hold & drag", lifting on a node never completes it; the bloom closes instead. Use "complete" on its edit sheet.

The bloom won't open

If your finger moves more than a small step before the hold time, the touch becomes a stroke: only the comet trail draws. Touch and hold still. See Hold & drag.

A double tap doesn't open settings

In "tap & place", your first tap already opens a bloom, so a double tap never reaches settings. Use the "settings" button, bottom right.

A shuttle drop landed at the top, not in the node

In "hold & drag" the bloom closes when you lift, so a drop lands at the top of the sky. Use "tap & place", or turn on "latched back", so the bloom stays open. See The Shuttle in Tasks.

Your touch mode, label placement or sound changed back

If the Zenith suite has one of these set, Tasks takes it over your own choice. See How Tasks fits the suite.

The undo pill didn't show

Saving the edit sheet makes no undo copy, and neither does adding a task by hand. Change it back and save, or delete the new task. See Undo.

The ask the sky button is missing

settings › "ask the sky" › "zenith ai in this app" is off. Only you can switch it back on.

Ask the sky answers nothing

"no ai here right now — the suite's ai switch may be off; otherwise add a model key in the zenith suite, or use a phone with on-device nano."

Check the suite's AI switch, then settings › "ask the sky" › "model". See Ask the sky in Tasks.

Ask the sky won't delete

"This needs “allow destructive actions” turned on." Only you can turn it on, and even then it asks you each time. See Deleting asks first, and undo.

Ask the sky won't change a setting

  • A Gold choice without Gold: it says the setting "is part of Zenith Gold — Tasks Gold, $1.99 once."
  • A switch only you turn on: "allow destructive actions", "let ask the sky place calendar commitments", and the switches on settings › "places & privacy".
  • The model: choosing it is yours.

"↶ undo what the sky just did" is gone

It shows only while that ask's own copy is the next thing undo would take back. Once you do something by hand that can be undone, it goes, so it never takes back your later change.

A place reminder never came

  • settings › "places & privacy" › "remind me at a place" is "off".
  • The task's "location active" is off — its row reads "· off".
  • The task is in a closed sky, the tutorial sky or a demo sky.
  • "location arrivals" is off in settings › "notifications".
  • Quiet hours or the daily limit held it, while "place arrivals follow quiet hours" is on.
  • You were there already. It won't remind you again until you leave and come back.

See Place reminders.

A weather trigger never fired

  • settings › "places & privacy" › "weather triggers" is off.
  • The weather is checked only when you open or come back to Tasks, for every open sky — never the tutorial sky or a demo sky.
  • A repeating trigger fires at most once a day; a once trigger is taken off after it fires.

See Weather triggers.

A repeating task didn't come round

It is looked at when you open or come back to Tasks. A task in another sky catches up when you switch to it. What happens to a missed round depends on "if missed". See Due times & repeats.

A file won't open

  • "that file is for “‹app›”, not zenith tasks" — it belongs to another Zenith app.
  • "not a zenith tasks file" — it isn't a Tasks file.
  • "3 skies can be open at once — close one, or unlock zenith gold for more" — 3 of your own skies are open; close one first, or get Gold. The tutorial and demo skies don't count.

See Save, open & back up.

Something opens the Gold offer

The matrix, analyze, folds & tablets, chat memory, themes beyond clean, mono and pastel, custom colours, a background picture, your own node pictures, a 4th talisman, a 4th open sky of your own and a 3rd region are Gold. See Zenith Gold in Tasks.

The bubble keeps coming back

Until you stop it, Android brings it back if it's closed. Tap "stop" on its notification, or settings › "capture" › "stop the bubble".

A sibling app is not offered

  • "zenith calendar isn't on this phone"
  • "zenith mind isn't on this phone"
  • "zenith journal isn't on this phone, or can't take a task yet"

"📓 journal about this" shows only when Zenith Journal is on the phone and takes tasks. See How Tasks fits the suite.
