Crop, background & "more ✦"
Three of design's menus change how a slide looks: "crop & mask" for a picture, "background" for the slide, and "more ✦" for the extras (Gold).
Crop & mask
How a picture or a video clip sits in its box: how close, which part shows, and the frame's shape. The file itself is never changed: "a crop is only a way of looking at it." It is free.
- In design, tap a picture or a clip on the slide to pick it up.
- Tap "crop & mask".
- "closer or wider" — "closer +" and "wider −" zoom in steps of a quarter, from 1 to 4 times. "all of it" puts the whole picture back.
- "what shows" — "← left", "right →", "↑ up", "down ↓" move which part shows, a fifth of the way each tap.
- "the frame's shape" — "square", "rounded" or "circle".
With nothing picked: "tap a picture on the slide first". With words picked: "that box holds words, not a picture".
Background
What the slide is drawn on. The menu says "what the slide is drawn on. gradients and the rest of the backgrounds are part of journal gold."
- "the generated night" — where it starts.
- "a plain colour" — "black", "deep night", "slate", "stone", "paper", "white", "ink blue", "moss", "wine", "sand". Each is named, so you never choose by colour alone.
- "one of this entry's pictures" — or "one of this journal's pictures". Only pictures are listed; the picture covers the slide. With none: "nothing here holds a file yet."
- "✦ gradients, frames and borders" — the last line. Opens "more ✦" (Gold).
A choice changes only the slide you are on.
"more ✦" (Gold)
- "a gradient behind it" — six named gradients, such as night to dawn, deep sea and ember.
- "a sticker" — a mark in its own box.
- For a picked box:
- "a frame round …" — "no frame", "a hairline", "a thick line", "two lines", "a line set inside";
- "a filter over the picture" — "as it is", "grey", "warm", "cool", "faded", "deeper";
- or, for words, "what the words wear" — "plain", "a glow behind", "an outline", "a shadow under";
- "this box's own colour".
- "add files in compose" — for an entry, opens compose on its "materials" tab.
What you choose here stays drawn, with or without Gold. Without journal gold, "more ✦" opens the Gold sheet.
Undo
There is no undo line here. "all of it" resets a crop; tap the old shape, colour or background again. Each time you leave design after changing something, the entry as it was is kept as an earlier version in its history, so you can bring it back. See Save & earlier versions.
