Share an entry (Gold)
The share page lists every form one entry can go out in: its words, a pdf, a markdown file, its slides, a reel — a gif or a video of it brought to life — or the entry file itself. Sharing is journal gold (Gold).
Open it
- The entry's ⋯ menu › "share it" — in the list, on a journal's page, or from a star's "more ⋯" on the sky.
- The reader › "share", at the foot.
The page is titled "share" and shows the entry's title, then "nothing leaves this phone unless you send it. sharing is part of journal gold." "‹ share", or back, closes it. Without journal gold every choice still shows, with " ✦ gold" after it, and a tap opens the Gold sheet on that feature.
The choices
| section | choice | what you get |
|---|---|---|
| "its words" | "copy the words" | "n words, on the clipboard" — plain and styled; says "copied" |
| "its words" | "send the words" | "plain, and styled for anything that takes it" — through the phone's share sheet |
| "its words" | "a text pdf" | "the words on a4 pages" |
| "its words" | "a markdown file" | a file named after the title |
| "what it looks like" | "a pdf of the slides" | "one slide on each page" |
| "what it looks like" | "pictures" | "one picture for each slide — for a carousel" |
| "what it looks like" | "a web page" | "one file · opens in any browser, asks for nothing" |
| "as it moves ✦ gold" | "a gif" | up to ten seconds |
| "as it moves ✦ gold" | "a video · 9:16" | up to a minute |
| "the entry itself" | "the entry file" | "<name>.zje · the entry and everything in it" |
| — | "to the shuttle" | "the suite's shared crossing — its words, for any zenith app". See The Shuttle in the Journal |
- "what it looks like" shows only once the entry has been designed. A line first says how many slides, their shape and roughly how big. Three chips choose the quality: "standard", "high — bigger files", "small file — easier to send".
- "as it moves" shows only once the entry has been brought to life. A gif is a separate Gold feature, "gifs and videos for reels, shorts and tiktok". A reel carries the captions only while settings › "ease" › "captions on videos" is on; off, it is made without them. Every clip's sound on a slide is mixed into a video; your own files are never changed.
Making it
- Tap a choice. The line says "making …" while it is made — a reel counts up, "the gif · 40%".
- A reel then shows its real size, such as "ready · 96 KB".
- The phone's share sheet opens. You pick where it goes there.
A reel is drawn in a process of its own: "a reel is drawn in a process of its own, so nothing that happens to it can touch the journal." If you leave the app while it renders, a notice says "your gif is ready" (or "your video is ready") — "tap to send it", while settings › "what it may say" › "an export finished" is on.
When it can't
- Too long: "longer than ten seconds — a video takes it" or "longer than a minute — shorten a scene". A tap only explains: "a gif holds ten seconds; this one is longer" or "a video holds a minute; this one is longer".
- Not brought to life: "this entry hasn't been brought to life".
- The render stopped: "that render stopped".
- The entry file couldn't be made: "that entry couldn't be written".
- The entry has gone: "that entry is gone."
- A hidden entry and "to the shuttle": "a hidden entry stays off the shuttle".
Ask the sky
Ask the sky can make any of these, at standard, high or small, and open the share sheet for your tap — asked first. Like this page, it refuses a gif longer than ten seconds or a video longer than a minute: "a gif holds ten seconds; this one is longer", "a video holds a minute; this one is longer". The last tap is always yours. See What the sky can do — design, screens, settings & more.
