A journal's page & its menu
A journal's own page is its constellation — its entries as stars, with the lines you drew between them — filling the screen, its name and count at the top, and a list of the same entries a swipe away. Everything a journal can have done to it is in one menu.
Open it
On the escritoire, tap a plate once to bring it forward and again to go in. On the sky, tap the journals book and hold a journal's chip in the short list. A new journal opens straight here. A journal brought in from a file opens here too.
As it opens, its signature plays — the stars arrive, the lines draw, the titles fade in, the name settles. "skip ▸" in the bottom right stops it at rest. See A journal's signature.
The page
- The top — "‹" goes back ("back to the desk" when held); the journal's name ("untitled"); "n entries", plus " · closed" and " · locked" when they apply; "⋯" opens the menu ("everything this journal can have done to it" when held).
- The constellation — the sky zoomed out to fit: each star on the day it is filed on, at its height in the sky, in its own shape, with the same lines. Only left to right is squeezed. Tap a star for its card: the entry's star and line, its title and first lines, then "read it", "write in it" and "never mind"; ⋯ opens the entry's menu.
- Move a star up or down — hold it until it lifts, then slide. It moves up and down only; sideways would be changing its date. Letting go says "moved", with "undo". The star stays where you put it everywhere it is drawn: the home sky, this page, the constellation widget, the journal's plate and its signature.
- "swipe up for the list" — drag up and the constellation shrinks into the top as the list rises. The list has an "ENTRIES" bar and "swipe down ▾" to lower it. Each row: the entry's star, title and a line under it; tap to read, ⋯ for its menu. Empty: "nothing in it yet. add entries from the menu, or join two stars in the sky."
- The suite corner — the AI star and the shuttle, once the signature has finished. After something here that can be taken back, "undo" (or "redo") sits before them. See Undo & earlier versions.
Back steps down one thing at a time: the menu, then the card, then the list, then the page.
A locked journal
Until it is opened this session, the constellation is replaced by "n entries wait inside, sealed on this phone." and the list says "sealed. open it from the menu, with the passphrase." See Close, lock & open a journal.
The menu, top to bottom
Tap ⋯. Each line has a sentence under it saying what it does; holding a line says that sentence too. "‹ done", or back, shuts it.
The head — the journal's name, "n entries", "· closed" when closed, and its gravity in words.
