Ask the sky — the launcher's built-in AI assistant — needs one thing from you before it can answer: a key from an AI provider you choose. You bring your own; Zenith supplies the rest.

Two facts before you start:

  • Your key is stored only on your device, and shared across every Zenith app — set it once here and the suite's other apps can use it too.
  • Entering a key isn't the same as sending anything. Your first real question triggers a one-time disclosure before it goes out.

Turn the assistant on

  1. Open Settings › ask the sky.
  2. Check that "ai & assistant" at the top is on. (It's on by default.) The rest of the page shows only while it's on.

Add your provider key

  1. On the same page, open "provider & key · bring your own AI".
  2. Under "model", pick your provider from the row of chips. A provider that already has a key shows a ✓. Until you pick, the first chip, Claude, is chosen.
  3. Tap "get <provider> key ↗" to open that provider's key page in your browser, if you need one.
  4. Copy your own key from the provider, then tap "paste" to drop it into the "<provider> API key (stored on device)" field. Zenith never fills this for you — the key is yours.
  5. Type the model name you want in the "model" field. Left blank, the provider's default model is used.
  6. Tap "test". It shows "testing…", then "✓ key works" or what went wrong. A test sends only a sign-in check — no question, no content.

Your provider is set.

If the phone can't keep a key you paste or type, the editor says "the key wasn't saved — this phone couldn't store it. try again."

Or use the phone's own model

The last chip, "On-device (Gemini Nano)", runs on your phone. It needs no key, and what you ask never leaves the phone. Only some phones have Google's on-device model.

  1. Pick the "On-device (Gemini Nano)" chip. The key and model boxes go away; only "test" and a short note stay.
  2. Tap "test". It shows "✓ runs on this phone", or "the on-device model isn't available on this phone — choose a provider with a key in Settings → ask the sky → provider & key". Nothing is sent.

On-device answers in words only. It can't change anything in the launcher, and it asks no one-time disclosure, since nothing goes out.

Ask your first question

  1. Open the assistant — from Settings › ask the sky tap "open — ask the sky", or open the panel from your sky (your home screen).
  2. Type a request, like "open settings", and tap "send".
  3. The first time you send to a provider, a one-time disclosure appears. Read it and accept to continue.

The assistant answers. You're set up.

If it says it isn't set up

With no key for the chosen provider, the panel shows "the sky isn't set up yet." and a "set up the sky in settings ›" chip. Tap it to go straight to Settings and add your key.
