Templates & effect packs (Gold)
A template is a ready design, sometimes already brought to life, that fills itself with your entry. An effect pack adds named looks to bring to life. Both come from the Zenith Library on the website as files you open here. Installing and using them is journal gold — "templates and library packs" (Gold). One sample template ships free.
The library page
settings › "the library" — "templates · effect packs". "what is here" counts what is installed, then lists the templates and the effect packs.
The sample, "aurora letter", is marked "ships with the journal · free", and can't be taken off.
Install one
From settings
- Under "add one", tap "⇑ install a template or pack". Without journal gold the button reads "… ✦ gold", and the tap opens the Gold sheet.
- Pick the file. The page says "reading it…".
- It says what arrived — "“name” added" for a template — or "that file isn't a zenith template or pack".
From a file opened in another app
Open the file from Files, a download or a browser and choose the Journal. "a file to open" shows its name, then "perhaps a template or an effect pack", with "install it" or "never mind". See Bring in a file or words.
The file is told apart by what is inside, not its name. A pack only ever adds looks.
Take one off
Under "templates" or "effect packs", tap "take it off this phone", then tap again — "tap again — it goes for good". It says "gone from the library". There is no undo; install the file again.
Use a template
- In design, tap "slides". The templates are at the bottom, under "or use a template".
- For an entry, each says what it will do before you tap it: "“<name>” · 3 slides · 2 paragraphs and 1 picture placed". For a journal: "a template lays out one entry; for a journal it is used once for each of its N entries, in order.", and each line reads "“<name>” · N slides, M for each entry".
- Tap one. It replaces every slide that was there: "laid out with “<name>”".
The template keeps its own backgrounds, frames and effects. Paragraphs fill its word places in order, and the entry's files fill its picture places in order. Its scenes go in too.
With none installed: "none installed. templates come from the zenith library on the website — settings · the library."
There is no undo line. When you leave design, the entry as it was is kept as an earlier version in its history, so you can bring it back — see Save & earlier versions. Or "one slide per page, made for me" starts again.
A journal's own template
A journal can name a template its undesigned entries, and its presentation, start from: on the journal's page, ⋯ › "its template". Nothing already designed changes, and opened and left untouched, nothing is kept. See Gravity & a journal's template (Gold).
Not in a backup
Templates and effect packs live in the library on this phone. A backup doesn't carry them.
Pack looks in bring to life
An installed pack's arrivals, effects and camera moves show beside the built-in ones in bring to life, marked ✦. See Bring to life (Gold).
