Hold & drag
"hold & drag" is the standard way to work the bloom — the rings of your tasks that open where you touch. You touch and hold, the bloom opens under your finger, and everything happens in one press until you lift.
In the app's words: "touch and hold to open a bloom; it lives while your finger is down".
Open
- Touch the sky and hold still. A small glow grows under your finger.
- After the hold time the bloom opens, centred on your touch, with a spark, a small buzz and a sound.
Don't move first. If your finger moves more than a small step before the hold time, the touch becomes a stroke: only the comet trail draws, and no bloom opens.
Each new hold starts un-zoomed, unless full bloom is on.
Slide
Keep your finger down and slide.
- Reach a star and it is chosen, with a small buzz and a note.
- Rest on a node — a task holding others — and its own ring opens on top.
- Slide back into the centre of the ring below and the top ring folds shut.
Lift
- On a star with nothing inside — it goes out in a burst and is marked done. An "undo" pill shows for 5 seconds, and the task's reminder is cancelled.
- On a done star — it reopens.
- On a star that carries a card — its card opens instead.
- On a node, or on empty sky — the bloom closes, leaving a fading ghost. Lifting on a node never completes it.
Use the dock
While holding, slide onto a button on the left edge: ✚ add · • details · edit · move · − remove.
- ✚ and move start placing at once. Lift to add a task at that spot, or to move the chosen star there.
- • details, edit and − act when you lift on them.
While one finger holds, a second finger can tap a dock button instead of sliding to it. See The dock buttons.
Other touches
- A quick double tap on empty sky opens settings.
- A big Z, top to bottom, closes everything. The Z is a built-in talisman and can be switched off on the talismans page.
- A second finger anywhere else while holding pinches and pans. See Full bloom & pinch.
- The phone's back button closes one ring at a time.
A drop from the shuttle
In "hold & drag" the bloom closes when you lift, so something dragged from the shuttle lands at the top of the sky. To drop onto a node, use "tap & place", or turn on "latched back", so the bloom stays open. See The Shuttle in Tasks.
Timing
On settings › "touch":
| setting | to start | range |
|---|---|---|
| "hold to open" | 220 ms | 120–450 ms |
| "dwell to open" — how long you rest on a node | 330 ms | 150–1200 ms |
| "double-tap speed" | 340 ms | 150–600 ms |
If the Zenith suite shares a mode, Tasks takes it each time it starts.
