Compose, top to bottom
Compose is the one place an entry is written or edited — a full screen with three tabs and a row of actions under them.
Open it
- On a new entry: see Write a new entry.
- On an existing entry: "write" or "write it" on a star's card, "write in it" on the entry's ⋯ menu, "write" in the reader, the list, and the orbits' "file in…" menu.
- Design's "add files in compose" opens it on the "materials" tab.
From the top
| part | what it is |
|---|---|
| "‹ compose" | leaves. Anything changed is saved first, and the line says "saved". Back does the same. A new entry in no journal, left while "loose" is switched off on the sky, switches "loose" back on so it doesn't vanish: "saved · loose stars are back on the sky", with "undo". A switched-off journal whose gravity took the new entry comes back on the same way. See Journals on the sky |
| "undo" / "redo" | a round arrow just before "AI" and "shuttle", there only after something that can be taken back. See Undo & earlier versions |
| "AI" and "shuttle" | on the same top line, at the right: ask the sky (only while the AI is on for this app) and the shuttle. Drag a shuttle item onto the words to make them a pop-up that opens its file, or anywhere else here to add it to the entry. See The Shuttle in the Journal |
| the filed line | "a new entry · " (new only), the app that wrote it, "filed" and the day, then "▾ change". See The filed day & where it happened |
| "where it happened" | a place, in your own words. See The filed day & where it happened |
| extra headers | one field for each extra header of the entry's journals. See Extra headers |
| "written by … · kept as it is" | another app's own lines, shown and never edited |
| the spoken-entry start | only when opened as a spoken entry: "a spoken entry · say it now, write it out later" and "✛ a voice note". See Spoken entries & write it out |
| the tabs | "words", "materials", "journals & tags". The chosen one reads "· words ·" |
| "save" | saves. See Save & earlier versions |
| "edited · one earlier version" / "edited · n earlier versions" | once there is history: opens the list of earlier versions, and becomes "hide the history" |
| "✦ pop-up" | makes a pop-up from the words you selected (Gold). See Pop-ups |
The three tabs
- "words" — the title and the pages of writing, with the pop-ups under them. See Words, titles & pages.
- "materials" — the files this entry holds: pictures, videos, sounds and any other file. See Photos, files & voice notes.
- "journals & tags" — its tags, its star, its colour, its journals and its ties. See Tags, ties, star & colour and File entries in & out.
Compose opens on "words" unless it was opened straight on another tab.
What waits for "save", and what is kept at once
- Wait for "save" — or for leaving compose: the title, the words, the tags, the files, the pop-ups, the place and the extra headers' values.
- Kept the moment you tap — each with "undo" on the notice line: the filed day, the star, the colour, the journals and the ties.
On a new entry, the star, the colour and the filed day say "… · saved with the entry", and are kept with the first save.
Putting a brand-new entry — one never saved yet — in a journal, or tying it, keeps it first, so the other side has something real to point at. An entry already kept is filed, tied or untied without saving anything else: its words, tags, pop-ups, place and extra headers still wait for "save".
Nothing typed is lost
Leaving saves what changed, and so does the app going out of sight — home, a call, the app switcher. An empty new entry is never saved.
Text sizes
The words follow settings › "ease": "reading size", "line spacing", "letter spacing", "reading width", "text aligned left, never stretched", and the text size for "compose". See Ease.
