Backup & export

A backup keeps your whole calendar in one file that you store where you like. Export sends one almanac — one of your calendars, a named, coloured layer of commitments — one commitment, or the journal out as a file.

Where it is. Settings › files ("save · export · back up · restore"). The page opens with the rule that matters most: a .zca file holds one almanac, and a .zbak file holds the whole calendar. Opening an almanac ADDS it beside the ones you have and never overwrites anything. Installing a backup REPLACES everything on this phone.

#Back up everything (Gold)

"⇓ back up everything" is a Gold feature. Without Gold the row wears ✦ and opens the Gold offer.

It asks for a folder, then writes every almanac, its commitments and your settings, including your saved place. It also packs every almanac's material — the files attached to it — and every picture worn as a mark, the small symbol or picture an almanac or commitment wears. With files to carry, you get one zip file, zenith-calendar-backup.zip, holding both parts. With none, you get a plain .zbak file.

• In the backup: the people on each commitment, with their names and contact links.
• Left out: the entries that came with the app (every phone has them), the journal, and remembered talks with the assistant.

#Install a backup (free)

"⇑ install a backup" is free. It reads the file, then asks "replace everything?", naming what the backup holds and what will be dropped from this phone. It cannot be undone. Choose "replace everything" or "never mind".

• Nothing is written to or deleted from your Google or phone calendars.
• A restored almanac arrives as a Zenith one. Link it to its calendar again from its page.
• Links to phone calendars made on another phone are let go. Almanacs fed by an account's calendar keep only their own commitments.
• A backup without its pack still installs and tells you what did not come. The wrong pack is refused.
• An older backup file installs with nobody joining its commitments.

#Open an almanac

"open an almanac…" adds an almanac file beside the others, never over them. A journal file is refused here.

#Export one almanac (Gold)

There are two ways in:

• Settings › files, under "EXPORT ONE ALMANAC ✦ GOLD" — one row per almanac, with "↗ almanac" for its .zca file or ".ics" for a plain calendar file.
• An almanac's page › "export". Without Gold it reads "export ✦" and opens the Gold offer.

Export stays open on an almanac under the lock — a locked almanac refuses every change until unlocked — because a copy changes nothing.

The sheet "send “‹name›” out as" offers three rows:

When "the almanac" has material, you name the file and choose how the material goes:

• "without materials" — the material stays on this phone.
• "with .zen" — the easiest to open, with the material in a .zen file beside it.
• "remote .zen" — the .zen goes to your Drive and the almanac carries its link, so anyone who receives the file can open those materials. This needs a Google account.

"audit material…" lets you choose which files go. For an almanac fed by a calendar, a Zenith file carries only its own commitments; the plain calendar file carries both.

#One commitment, and the journal

• A commitment. On its page, tap "↗ take it elsewhere" › "⊐ send it as a card". This is free. Choose "without materials" (the default), "with .zen" or "remote .zen", then "· save it ·", "· to the shuttle ·" or "· not now ·".
• The journal. In the journal, "· save the volume ·" writes the whole journal to one file, zenith-journal.zjv.

#Who is named in a file

A card or almanac file you send carries the people on a commitment as plain names only. Only a backup and your own Drive copy keep contact links. An .ics file names no one.

#File types

These are the suite's own formats, so sibling Zenith apps can read them. Tapping a Zenith file opens it in the calendar.
