Turn the year & go to today

How-to

The sky — the home view of your entries — shows a stretch of the year at a time. You move along it by dragging the year's path, and come back to today with one tap.

Turn the year

  1. Start a drag on or near the dotted path near the foot of the sky.
  2. Slide sideways. The days move under your finger, and the day in the middle becomes the day the sky is turned to. The year in the header follows it.

What you feel and hear

  • Each time a new month reaches the middle, you feel a tick and hear one note of the journal's scale.
  • Over days that hold stars you feel a soft bumpiness, stronger the more those entries carry. Over empty days, nothing.

The texture's strength and spacing are in settings › "ease" › "touch"; the scale is in settings › "the journal's voice" › "the scale it plays". See Ease and Sound & the journal's voice.

Where the sky is turned to is kept while the app is open. It starts at today.

A back swipe from the edge of the screen never moves the year.

See more of it, or less

Spread two fingers to see fewer days, closer; pinch to see more — from a fortnight across out to three years. See Tap, hold, drag & pinch.

Jump to an entry's day

  • In the list, unfold a line and tap "in the sky".
  • In the reader, tap "in the sky" at the foot.
  • On an entry's ⋯ menu, tap "in the sky".
  • On a journal's menu, "in the sky" goes to its first entry.

Go to today

  • Tap "today" — ◉, "go to today" — in the bottom-right corner. It shows only on the sky, and only while the sky is turned away from today.
  • Or press back on the sky while it is away from today. Back goes in one order: first it closes what is open in front — the ✛ choices, an entry's ⋯ menu, a star's card — then the journals short list, then it turns the sky to today, then it goes to the home view.

The sky moves back to today.

Ask the sky

Ask the sky can turn the sky to any day you name, or to today. See What the sky can do — design, screens, settings & more.
