Gravity & a journal's template (Gold)
Two things on a journal's menu let it do work for you. Gravity lets a journal gather entries by itself, by a tag they carry. Its template sets how its undesigned entries start out in design. Both are journal gold (Gold).
Gravity
- On the journal's page, tap ⋯ and find "gravity ✦ gold".
- Tap tag chips, such as "#studio", to turn each on or off for this journal.
- Tap "let gravity file n" to file every entry its tags claim that it doesn't hold yet. It says "gravity filed n", or reads "nothing waiting".
With no tags used anywhere yet: "no tags used yet — add one to an entry in compose, and it can be pulled in here."
From then on, every new or changed entry you save is offered to every journal's gravity, and each journal that claims it files it.
- Gravity reads tags only.
- It never pulls anything back out. What you filed by hand stays.
- A journal that is closed, put away or locked is skipped, and "let gravity file" there says why — such as "this journal is closed — reopen it to add anything".
- The line under the journal's name says its gravity: "no gravity · filed by hand", or "pulls in: tag studio".
- A new entry never vanishes. If every journal holding it is switched off the sky, the journals whose gravity took it come back on, and the line says "“<name>” back on the sky", with "undo". See Journals on the sky.
There is no undo line; take a filed entry out by hand. See File entries in & out.
"let them settle" — in the orbits, sorted by journals, a dashed line joins each loose entry to the planet whose gravity claims it. "let them settle · n" files each into the first journal that claims it: "n settled into their journals". See The orbits & "file in…".
Without journal gold, the section reads "gravity ✦ gold" with "✦ what gravity does", and "let them settle ✦ gold" — each opens the Gold sheet.
A journal's template
A template is a ready design, sometimes already brought to life, that fills itself with an entry. See Templates & effect packs (Gold).
- On the journal's page, tap ⋯ and find "its template ✦ gold", after extra headers and before gravity.
- Tap "none" or one of the installed templates. The chosen one is ticked.
- An entry in this journal with no design yet opens in design already laid out with it, and so does the journal's own presentation.
- Nothing already designed changes.
- It is a starting point: opened and left untouched, nothing is kept.
- An entry in several journals starts from the first of them that has a template and isn't locked.
- A locked journal's template can't be changed until it is open.
With none installed: "none installed. templates come from the zenith library on the website — settings · the library." A template that has since been removed: "its template is no longer installed, so the designer starts from the pages."
Without journal gold, choosing a template opens the Gold sheet; "none" is always free. A template chosen earlier stays chosen, but design starts from the pages.
Ask the sky
Ask the sky can set a journal's gravity tags, let gravity file, let them settle, and set a journal's template — each refused in words without journal gold. See What the sky can do — entries & journals.
