A year ago today
The Journal shows you what you wrote on this day last year in four places: on the sky, at the top of the list, in a morning notice, and on the home-screen widget.
Echoes on the sky
An echo is last year's entry shown again on today's line: a hollow, faint star in a dashed ring, with "a year ago" beside it.
- While today is on screen, every star filed on this date one year ago is also drawn on today's line, at its own height. The star itself still sits on its own day last year.
- Tap one to open that entry's card. Its first line ends "· a year ago today", and it has no "connect".
- A held finger or a drag passes over echoes; only a tap opens one. Echoes can't be picked up.
In the list
At the top of the list, a box — "a year ago today · …" — shows up to three of last year's entries from this date. It shows only when nothing is narrowed. See The list.
The morning notice
settings › "what it may say" › "a year ago today" — a notice around 9 in the morning, "you wrote something on this day last year." (or how many things, when more than one). It never says what you wrote; a tap opens the entry. It starts off. Entries in a locked journal, and the example journals' entries, are never counted. See What it may say — notices.
On the widget
On a day you wrote something a year ago, the widget reads "a year ago today · you wrote something on this day". A tap opens it. See Widgets, the tile & shortcuts.
Hidden entries
A hidden entry is left out of the notice and the widget. See Hide an entry.
Ask the sky
Ask the sky can list what was filed on any one day — and so a year ago today — open an echo's card as a tap does, and turn the morning notice on or off. See What the sky can do — design, screens, settings & more.
