What the sky can do — skies, settings & more

Reference

This page lists what you can ask ask the sky — Tasks' AI — to do beyond single tasks, in plain words. Tasks themselves are on What the sky can do — tasks.

Your skies

  • Switch to an open sky, open a new one, or reopen one saved on the phone.
  • Rename a sky — the one on screen, unless you name another.
  • Give you an outline of every open sky.
  • Close a sky. It stays saved on the phone.
  • Delete a sky — only while you allow it, and it asks you on screen each time.

Opening a 4th sky of your own without Zenith Gold is refused: "Three skies can be open at once without Zenith Gold — close one first." The tutorial sky and demo skies don't count.

It sees the tutorial sky and demo skies like any open sky, and works in them the same way. It can delete one, which takes it off the phone, and a demo talisman — both only while you allow it, with your yes. It can't add the tutorial or the demo content; that's yours, on the welcome card or in settings › "files". See The tutorial sky & demo content.

It can't open or save a file. Those go through Android's own file screens.

Regions

  • Set how many regions the sky has, from 1 to 9. More than 2 needs Gold, except for a sky that already has them.
  • Set where the lines between them sit.
  • Name one region, or clear its name.

Fewer regions never lose a task, and the change can be undone. See Regions.

Settings

It can change almost every setting by name — the view, labels, sizes, theme and colours, touch timings, motion and sound, text sizes, ease, the reminder limits and quiet hours, the three alert kinds, and "↺ back to standard". It can also put the first-run welcome away for good without adding anything, or bring it back. It can't switch on the welcome card's choices.

It refuses:

  • a Gold choice without Gold — the matrix, most themes, any colour but the six named ones, folds & tablets, and "remember". It says the setting "is part of Zenith Gold — Tasks Gold, $1.99 once."
  • turning on a switch only you turn on — "allow destructive actions", "let ask the sky place calendar commitments", and the five switches on settings › "places & privacy". It can switch each of these off.
  • a theme that doesn't exist — "no theme called “‹name›” — try: …"
  • a value the setting can't take — "“‹value›” isn't something “‹setting›” takes", with what it does take

It can't choose its model.

What shows

Set the horizon, the timeline and "match my context" — the filters List view and the focus deck use. It takes a timeline up to 60 windows ahead, past the slider's 24. See The viewer panel.

Open a page for you

Settings, or one settings page by name; the skies page; the shuttle; ★ priority; search; the focus deck; blockers; analyze (Gold); tomorrow plan; talismans; actuations; the archive; templates; today's agenda; insights; paste a list; the region editor; the viewer panel; the files sheet; a task's card or edit sheet; or focus on a task. The page opens once its reply is done.

"folds & tablets" and "chat memory" open only with Gold.

The shuttle

  • Read what's on it — each item's first line, whether it's a file, and where it came from.
  • Put words on it, for every Zenith app.
  • Make an item a star — inside a task you name, else at the top of the sky. The item stays on the shuttle.
  • Send a text item "→ calendar" or "→ mind", or copy its words.
  • Remove an item, from every Zenith app — only while you allow it.

See The Shuttle in Tasks.

Capture

  • Paste a list: a new "pasted" node at the top of the sky, one task per line, dates and repeats read out.
  • Start or stop the floating bubble.

Talismans and actuations

  • List, make and change talismans, and switch any on or off, the built-in Z too. Without Gold a 4th is refused — the demo content's talismans not counted: "more than 3 talismans is zenith gold."
  • List, make and change actuations, and run one to read the tasks it gathers now.
  • Delete either — never the built-in Z — only while you allow it.

See Talismans and Actuations.

Places and the agenda

  • List your pinned places, and pin one by its address or where you are now. Its reply names the place, never where it is.
  • Unpin one, only while you allow it.
  • Read today's events from the phone's calendar, and "task it" one by its title or number.

See Show only when…, pinned places & today's agenda.

How things are going

  • Read you the review numbers: open, done, done today and this week, the streak, and how many days the oldest open task has waited.
  • Run analyze and read you its findings (Gold). Without Gold it says "analyze is zenith gold."

Undo

Take back the newest change in the sky on screen, yours or its own, exactly as the pill does. See Deleting asks first, and undo.

A crash report

Say whether a crash report is waiting, send it — your mail app opens with it ready, and you press send — or discard it.

Other Zenith apps' abilities

Ask the sky can also use the abilities of every other Zenith app on the phone. Name an app and that app's ability is used; otherwise Tasks' own come first. Another app's delete still waits behind "allow destructive actions" and your yes. An app whose own AI is off shares nothing.

The other way round, while "zenith ai in this app" and the suite's own AI switch are on, other Zenith apps' AI can use Tasks' abilities. See How Tasks fits the suite.

What stays yours

Buying or restoring Gold, choosing its model, typing keys, the ⚑ report, what it remembers, lenses, switching on the switches only you can turn on, picking files, placing a widget, and every touch in the bloom.
