Share a journal (Gold)
One page sends a whole journal out: as one file holding every entry, as its signature — the constellation drawing itself — or as its presentation, its entries laid out as slides. The Gold choices are journal gold (Gold); watching the signature is free.
Open it
On the journal's page, tap ⋯, then under "send it" tap "share it" — "as a file, a picture, a pdf, a page or a reel". The page is titled "share" and the journal's name. "‹", or back, closes it.
Without journal gold each Gold choice still shows, with " ✦ gold" after it, and a tap opens the Gold sheet.
A locked journal that isn't open says only "this journal is locked. its entries are sealed on this phone, so there is nothing to hand over — open it first." See Close, lock & open a journal.
"the journal itself"
"the journal file" (Gold) — "<name>.zjj · n entries and everything in them": one file holding the journal and each entry whole. Another phone with the Journal can bring it in. If one of its entries can't be read, nothing is made: "one of its entries couldn't be read, so nothing was written".
"its signature"
"the constellation appearing: its stars, the lines you drew, and its name settling."
- "watch it" — closes this page and plays the signature. See A journal's signature.
- "✦ a gif" and "✦ a video · 9:16" (Gold) — each says what it will be.
The gif or video is the same drawing as the journal's page: the home sky zoomed out to fit, each star on the day it is filed on, at its height, in its own shape.
An empty journal says "nothing in it yet, so there is no constellation to draw."
"its presentation"
- Not presented yet: "this journal hasn't been presented yet — its entries become slides, in the journal itself." and "present it", which opens design on the journal. See Design slides.
- Presented: a line with the slide count, shape and rough size, then the chips "standard", "high — bigger files", "small file — easier to send".
| choice | what you get |
|---|---|
| "a pdf" (Gold) | "one slide a page" |
| "pictures" (Gold) | "one a slide, for a carousel" |
| "one web page" (Gold) | "the slides and their player in a single .html" |
"as it moves ✦ gold"
Only once the presentation has been brought to life; otherwise "bring it to life and its presentation can be a reel as well."
- "a gif" — up to ten seconds; longer: "longer than ten seconds — a video takes it".
- "a video · 9:16" — up to a minute; longer: "longer than a minute — shorten a scene".
A tap on one that is too long only explains: "a gif holds ten seconds; this one is longer" or "a video holds a minute; this one is longer". The reel carries the show's captions only while settings › "ease" › "captions on videos" is on.
Making it
The line says "making …", a reel counts up in percent, and then the phone's share sheet opens, where you pick where it goes. If you left the app while a reel was made, a notice says "your gif is ready" (or video) — "tap to send it".
Hidden entries stay behind
The journal file, the signature, the presentation and the reel all leave a hidden entry out, with its star and the lines drawn to it, and the counts on this page don't include it. See Hide an entry.
Bringing it in on another phone
Open the file there, or use settings › "files" › "bring one in". Bringing it in is journal gold too. See Bring in a file or words.
