Connected accounts & Drive sync

Link a Google account once, and you can carry any almanac — a named, coloured layer of commitments, like one calendar — in your own Google Drive. Your other phones then have it whole.

#Open the connections screen

You can reach it three ways:

• Hold the gear ⚙ to open the settings book, then tap settings › "connections". The row reads "your google account — calendars · drive".
• Open the binder — the place where every almanac lives — and tap the gear ⚙ in its panel. Tap the row "connect a google account", or "connected as ‹account›" once one is linked.
• In "make zenith your calendar", tap the step whose action is "set up syncing".

#What the screen says

The screen is headed "connections". Under it: "google accounts linked here are shared by every Zenith Suite app on this phone."

Then you see either "no account linked yet." or one row per account, with "remove" beside it.

"remove" takes that account away from every Zenith app, not only the calendar.

Under "what zenith calendar asks google for" there is one line: "drive files — back up almanacs and bring them to your other phones". Drive is the only thing the calendar asks Google for.

The screen also tells you ahead of time what Google's own screen will say. It names "Zenith Suite", which means these apps on your phone. It asks for the Drive files Zenith makes, and your email so you can tell accounts apart. "black syntax and friend castle receive nothing, and there is no server in between."

#Link an account

1. On the connections screen, tap "connect google" at the right-hand end.
2. It says "opening google…". Follow Google's own screen.
3. A line underneath answers: "linked ‹account›", "cancelled", or the error in lower case.
4. To leave, tap "back" — the ‹ chevron at the top left — or use the phone's back gesture.

#What that permission reaches

Only the files the calendar itself made. It cannot see, list or touch anything else in your Drive.

Linking an account here never takes away what another Zenith app was granted on the same account.

Nothing about calendars is asked here. The one narrow calendar permission is asked only when it is needed, on an almanac's travel sheet. See Travel & the phone's own calendars.

#Carry an almanac in your Drive

1. Open the binder and open the almanac's page.
2. Tap the "what comes in" door.
3. Under "where else it reaches", tap "○ carry it in your drive". The ○ is an open circle. Its line reads "the whole almanac, through your own account, invisible to every other app".
4. Once on, it reads "◉ carried in your drive" — ◉ is a filled circle — with "your other devices have it whole — every kind, rule and colour".

Without a linked account, the row says "connect your google account first — settings › connections". On a locked almanac, it gives the lock's own sentence instead of blaming the network. See The lock.

#What travels

The almanac's whole document travels: its kinds, its repeat rules and its colours as you chose them. Nothing is translated into a calendar entry, because Google never looks inside it.

• No calendar entry is made.
• Nothing appears in Google Calendar.
• No other app can read it.

Its material — the files the almanac carries — travels as separate files, beside a small index of what the almanac holds. Changing one file does not send the rest again.

#Which way it moves

It is not a merge. The newest copy wins, and the almanac is replaced whole. If both copies changed, the later change wins, and both phones say so, naming the almanac:

• On the phone whose change was kept: "“‹almanac›” was changed on your other device too — this phone's later change was kept, and that one was replaced".
• On the phone whose change was replaced: "“‹almanac›” was changed on your other device too — this phone's change was replaced by that later one".
• When this phone had changed it too, but the other device's change was the later, as the copy comes down: "“‹almanac›” was changed on your other device more recently — that copy replaced this one".

Each line is said once, the next time the calendar comes back to the front or you tap "look for almanacs from my other devices".

Drive's own clock decides whether the copy up there moved. So it never depends on two phones agreeing on the time.

#When it moves

• Up: once as you leave the app, not on every edit.
• Down: when you come back to the app. This only happens on a phone that already carries something this way, and at most once in fifteen minutes.

#What holds it back

Two switches in the binder's ⚙ panel can stop it. See What comes in, what goes out.

• While "nothing leaves this phone" is on, nothing goes up.
• While either that or "nothing is coming in" is on, nothing comes down.

A copy you paused is neither sent nor taken in. A locked almanac's copy comes in once you unlock it.

An almanac fed by a calendar on this phone is not replaced from Drive, since that calendar is where its changes come from. Its material still follows.

#Bring almanacs from your other devices

The automatic bring-down only touches almanacs already on this phone. It never makes a new almanac by itself. To fetch the others:

1. Open the binder and tap the gear ⚙ in its panel.
2. Tap "look for almanacs from my other devices" — "brings your almanacs here up to date, and fetches whatever else they left in your drive".
3. It may answer "nothing waiting from your other devices" or "drive could not be reached". Otherwise it lists each waiting almanac.
4. Tap "make it an almanac" on the one you want. "it keeps who it is — the same almanac as on your other device".

This counts toward the three almanacs you can make for free, beyond the ones the app ships with. A demo almanac never counts, so it never asks. More than three needs Zenith Gold — see Zenith Gold in the calendar.

The same panel counts what is set, each as "N almanac(s)" or "none": "carried in your drive", "shown to the rest of this phone" and "fed by a phone calendar".

#Take an almanac off Drive

Taking an almanac off Drive asks first, with "take it off" and "leave it". "take it off" deletes the copy and all of that almanac's material in your Drive. This phone keeps everything.

It clears everything up there on purpose. A file this app made is invisible to you in your own Drive, so anything left behind would be something you could never find or clear.
