The month view

The month view is a month as a grid, with the moon resting half off the bottom edge. To reach it, carry the week's moon down past halfway, or tap "month" in the "view in" row of a day's brief — the list of a day's commitments along the bottom of the screen.

#What you see

• The grid. Weekday names crown six rows of seven days, starting on the week's first day. Days from the months either side are faint. Today's number is gold, and the picked day is ringed. The month's name is not written over the grid, because the big date already says it.
• Marks. Each day shows up to three of its commitments — anything on your calendar, events or things to do — as marks. Each uses the commitment's own picture or mark — its small symbol — else its almanac's mark (the calendar it belongs to), else a first letter.
• The moon shows the picked day's phase.
• The hint reads "tap a day to open it · tap it again to visit its earth · stroke the moon for other months". It steps back while a day's brief is open. While the moon is lifted, it reads "lift the moon · past halfway lies the week".
• The brief stands between the foot of the grid and the top of the moon, so the grid's last rows stay readable. Its list scrolls there.

#Taps

• A day picks that day and opens its brief.
• The same day again opens the day view.
• The moon — take hold of it. Carry it up past halfway for the week.

The grid keeps its own month. Tapping a grey day from the next month does not jump the calendar.

#Scrub and roll

• Scrub. A drag that begins on a day picks each day it crosses, and holds the grid on the month it began in. Each day plays what is on it: up to three notes for its commitments, or a low, quiet note for an empty day. You feel each day, more strongly where something is placed.
• Roll. Stroke sideways on the moon, the title band or the space round the grid to roll through the months. The picked day rides along, kept to a day the new month has. With another calendar system (Gold) chosen, it rolls that system's months. The direction follows "reverse the moon's spin" in Settings › time & directions.

#On other screens

• A phone held sideways. The grid stands below the big date and to the right of "voice" and "add" and their words, with its hint and the moon underneath. The moon rises under the middle of the grid, and every day stays readable and tappable. The hint runs in two lines, no wider than the grid.
• The docket on a wide phone turned sideways. In the docket — on a wide screen, the side panel beside the calendar (Gold) — the grid also keeps clear of "back", "today", "almanacs" and "settings". If that would make the columns too narrow, the grid takes its full width.
• An open fold or a tablet. The sky — the whole calendar screen — has its own frame there, and the month stands in it below the date. The grid starts near the top of the frame and the moon is drawn smaller, so the grid, the day's words and the moon each keep their room.
