Drive backup
Tasks can keep a copy of the sky on screen in your own Google Drive, and bring it back later — on this phone or a new one. It uses the Google account you connected once in the Zenith suite. Nothing goes to Zenith's servers, and Tasks can see only the files it made in your Drive.
This is different from "back up everything (.zbak)", which saves every sky to a file you keep. See Save, open & back up.
Where it is
settings › "connections" — "your google account — google tasks · drive". Under "google":
- "back up this sky to drive"
- "restore this sky from drive"
With no account connected, either one says "connect a google account in the suite first." "manage accounts" at the top of the page connects one.
Back up
Tap "back up this sky to drive". You see "backed up this sky to drive." If it doesn't go: "backup failed — check your connection and access."
- Only the sky on screen goes — its tasks and lists. The pictures themselves stay on the phone; the Drive copy holds the sky only.
- One backup per sky, per phone. Each sky on each phone has its own file in your Drive. Backing the same sky up again replaces that file, so it never piles up copies. One sky never overwrites another, and two phones never overwrite each other's.
- Renaming the sky doesn't lose its backup: the next backup still finds it.
Restore
Tap "restore this sky from drive". It asks first: "restore this sky from drive?" — "it replaces the sky on screen — undo keeps a copy". Tap "restore", or "not now" to leave your sky as it is. The backup then takes the place of the sky on screen.
Which backup it brings back, in order:
- this phone's own backup of this sky
- the newest backup of this sky made on any phone — so it's found on a new phone, or after Tasks is put on again
- the newest backup of a sky with the same file name — so your first sky is found on a new phone too
The line afterwards says where it came from, and the day Drive last changed it:
- "restored from drive (backed up ‹day›)."
- "restored from drive (backed up on another phone, ‹day›)."
- "restored from drive." when the day can't be read
The day reads like "20 oct 2026".
When the sky on screen already has tasks, and the backup found by its file name is a different sky, it still takes the place of yours, and the line names it: "replaced with “‹name›” from another phone — undo brings yours back." or "replaced with “‹name›”, another sky — undo brings yours back."
When nothing comes back
- "no drive backup found for this sky." — Drive answered, and there's no backup for it.
- "couldn't reach drive — check your connection." — Drive didn't answer. Your sky is untouched.
- "another sky came on screen, so nothing was restored." — you switched skies while it downloaded.
Undo
A restore can be undone. The undo pill shows "restored from drive"; "undo" puts back the sky as it was just before. The copy is taken right before the swap, so anything you changed while it downloaded is kept in it. A restore that fails leaves no undo. See Undo.
Ask the sky
Ask the sky can back up the sky on screen to Drive, and restore it, with the same undo.
Restoring replaces the sky on screen, so it works only while "allow destructive actions" is on in ask the sky's settings — otherwise it says "that's switched off — turn on “allow destructive actions” in tasks' settings (ask the sky)." Even then it asks you first: "the sky wants to restore this sky from drive — allow it?", with "it replaces the sky on screen — undo keeps a copy". "not this" leaves your sky as it is: "not restored — you said no." See Deleting asks first, and undo.
